Well...my mother wanted to use my 60mm rotary cutter to cut off the hems of her dress pants (multiple pairs) so she could hem them (she is very petite). She did remind me that for my birthday, she had bought the blade in the cutter (as well as the cutter) for my stack n whack class so I whacked some pants. Then hid it:)

I keep my scissors in my sewing room. I have enstilled in my family from the beginning that my scissors are for sewing only. I have plenty of other scissors for "other uses". They don't want to hear my complain so they leave them alone.

My son used my sewing scissors to cut gasket material for a car he was working on. He learned in short order that was not a good idea and never did it again. I keep an old pair where they are handy for using for opening envelopes, cutting string or cardboard and don't care what they use those for but my good ones are in the sewing room and everyone who comes to our house knows that you do not enter there without a specific reason and/or permission unless you want to see an Irish fit!

I have 2 pair of Ginghers that I use for paper and such since my (used to be) teenage son used them to cut speaker wire. Of course I couldn't cut fabric with them anymore. Believe it or not. 6 months ago, my son bought me a brand new pair of Ginghers. He is now 42 years old. He said he figured he owed them to me after ruining 2 pair. LOL

I also had to start tieing string to the ones they can use and a tag to my good ones stating "Do NOT Use"! I had a good pair of Ginghers my sister gave me...I hid them so well I never found them! :-(

Using sewing scissors for cutting scallions in nothing. My ex-husband tried to use my pinking shears to cut his toe nails! When that didn't work he used my regular sewing scissors. I wanted to drop-kick him to the moon!

When I was canvas painting in oils my husband used my good $25.00 2" sable brush to trim the outside door facing!! I saw red and it wasn't the paint!!
