My husband likes to say "That's what she/he said, then the bed broke!". It gets many a laugh when interjected at just the right time.

Can't never did anything, until he married can. You made your own bed now, lay in it. Lots more just can't think of them now.

My dad's favourite was "you don't have to be crazy to get along in this world...but it helps".

My children are carrying on the tradition. :D

I'm not clear on the stitch in time one, but the other means that silk is soft, elegant and refined. A pig's ear is tough, leathery, rough. It can't be silk no matter how had you try.

my husband's favorite when talking about not so bright folks "he couldn't poor piss out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the heel" military thing i guess
