Here is Nurseknitslaura! You can't tell but next to her fish I FM'd a little replica fish just to fill in the open water with some quilting! I also stitched in the ditch to quilt this fish! This fish is done on denim!

Ok I think all the blocks have been posted - I hope, but I still have to put them all in the Glenn's Fishy Quilt side!

Bernie states in his album that his machine is from Japan and mentions the company that made the machine for Singer. Mine has the JA8 stamp on the bed which means it is from Japan.

Cathy or Pat or anyone else, What decade does this machine come from? I was thinking somewhere around 1950s.
Monica, it could be from the 50's. Singer started making the 319, 306's, etc., in the early 50's. I did some research and all I could find was one 224 made in the 60's. Can't you date it? Even though Singer moved a company to Japan there still should be records? I know most of the machines with the JA don't have records, but I thought Singer still kept serial numbers on their machines? Yes/No?

Our friends have a cabin a few miles away and all the cabins around that lake have ladies that sew with treadles..... cause they don't have electric available to them yet. We are remote but love it that way.

And Monica, thanks for your comments on all the blocks. Aren't they all so wonderful? What a great job everyone did. Your idea of kissing fish is just too cute!
Geeze, I thought those places were just vacation homes! That is really cool, but I don't want my DH to know! He would love to live out away from the main stream as a minimalist!

The serial # starts with TB which date starts beginning 1956.

Why would someone who claims they restore cars use 3 in 1 oil to oil a sewing machine? The guy that I purchased this machine from told me he was into fixing up vintage cars, but didn't know much on vintage sewing machines. Eeks, just to clean the underneath side of this machine I have had to use Goop to cut through the 3in1 junk.

Folks, Please only use sewing oil to oil a sewing machine.

No. I don't mind at all. You did the hard part. The applique was the easiest part. I don't do needle turn appllique, I use freezer paper and do it that way. I think it's a lot harder to quilt around the edges of the fish. Thanks for showing my block. I was wondering how you would quilt it.
I like the fact that no two blocks are alike. It's interesting to see just how many different blocks we all made with the fish theme. It was fun, and I'd do another surprise quilt block again if asked.

Martha sewed that on her 301. The fabric was scraps from some kind of fishing thing she sewed for her neighbor - his wife had her make a surprise.
