Recently I have been buying sheets at WM and using them for backing. They are 200 count and work very well as backing. As you say, no seaming and they are much cheaper than buying fabric. Certainly others wouldn't approve, but it works for me. Money is too tight. Good luck.

Why at one time was it not okay to use sheets for backing? I think I was taught that at a class. Now you wonder if the instructor was just trying to sell more fabric. I'm the only one that was in the class that continued to quilt, and I use anything that looks right on the back. LOL

For days, I have been contemplating the same idea. I have two very good sheet sets from garage sales, I want to just tie and then donate to our church quilting group. However, I wonder, well the quilt feel cold at first, when bedding down for the cold Minnesota winter night. I realize that once one has warmed up the quilt stays warm also. For now, I'm hoping to buy flannel sheets from garage sales. Years ago, most all quilts were layered that way.

There is too much of a push from instructors etc to buy, buy buy and not every one can afford to spend those precious dollars so thinking recycle, repurpose in any area is always a wise choise.
