Glad he took it well. At lest now if one does break you don't have to hurry to get it fixed or replaced.

I use a cheapy Singer I bought at Price Club in San Diego about 20 years ago and that I rarely have problems with! Kiss your husband for the thought, mine bought my Kenmore, and use the old one now that it works!

Just set up both machines for use and wait to see if he notices. If he does, then tell what a miracle worker your son is and how the powers that be knew you NEEDED the second machine to speed up the sewing projects. It took me years to realize that husbands normally have the tools they need to make the jobs they do easier. So now when I can do a certain job better with a different size cutting mat, rotar cutter, even a second sewing machine, I do not let my DH make me feel guilty for having an "extra".
