    I would put a border around both blocks and then trim them down to the exact size needed (upsize blocks) … good luck!

    An easy way I've found when I need to 'match' blocks is trim the least inconspicuous side(s). Take your 12 1/2" sq, use painters or embroidery tape and mark on for 12 1/4". Then lay it on top of the blk to be trimmed with the taped edges on the 2 edges Not to trim back to 12 1/4"...You only have to trim 2 sides that way. You get it all set together it will be fine. Hope that gives you an idea. I've used it that way several times and have no problems.
