We did have a good time with Glenn and Pat. I have the redeye we started done except for the bobbin area and I need to get another couple dremmel tool bits and finish off the plates. I screwed up the French polishing a bit today after I painted with the wrong color black touch up paint but I worked it out eventually - Glenn you should be proud of me. We had DGKs hanging around. They now would prefer to clean and oil old sewing machines to eating and making mudpies. Mercy sewed a couple dresses for her doll today. I'm very excited. The machine with the spinner knob gave her the confidence she needed! Wilbur loves to work the Chinese hand crank - he thinks it is too noisy - it is - we had to oil it - it still squeaks - cheap Chinese junk....

I think I got flat black somehow. It does help though.
That Wilbur thought that VS machine with the missing slide plate was REALLY KOOL . He even ate most of his peas so he could oil it.

    Miriam,

Take the gear cover plate off the Chinese HC. Clean it good then grease it with Tri-Flow grease. Oil the shafts with T-F too then USE it. Mine was like you describe, noisy and coarse feeling. But after the grease and oil it is smoothing out and quieting down.
