Same for us...our water comes from a huge aquafer down underground in the south end of the Central Valley of CA. So it's pretty good when we get it, except for being somewhat hard...spots on the dishes and lime deposits in the toilets and the tub!!

I have two springs on my property, but currently use County Water. It will be a year or two before I can change to the spring water.

We get our water from a rural water system. Our water is good but it is piped from a lake about 45 miles a way. Very expensive. There is not subsurface water around here and even if there was, the state now requires they be licensed and if you want to sell, you cannot obtain a loan on a house even in the country without an approved water supply. Big brother is busy. Didn't use to be this way.

I have a community well in our neighborhood and when I first moved here the water was good and inexpensive. Then the well was sold to AquaTexas and all they've done is raise the rates and lower the quality. $49.95 before they tack on the water usage charges and the chlorinator (?) goes haywire every once in a while and bleach comes out of the tap. Legally, there is no maximum limit to how much chlorine is added. I have a filter on my shower and a Brita filter for drinking and cooking. I try not to wash many clothes when it's really strong. The oil and gas companies are doing a lot of fracking around here too so it probably won't be long until we're wishing the only problem we had was too much chlorine.

we are fotunate enough on the western slope of Colorado to have a glacier and lakes that are fed by spring waters and the winter snows . City water to a point but fed by springs around here and the glaciers, snow melt into lakes that are holding ponds for our water .. its okay, we filter it just to be on the safe side !

I've never had spring water but some homes we looked at online had them & we always wondered about them. Glad you were able to fix problem yourself!

Where outside Chicago do you live? We are in Orland Park, about 25 miles southwest of Chicago, and have city water here, and pay about $65 every two months. I loved when we lived in the city, we paid about $30 every six months.
