I have a pincushion by each of my sewing machines, the one I use the most is where I do my piecing & it is a magnetic pin holder. The cushion I like the best is a wool cushion that I bought at a quilt shop. Lots of my pins end up on the "carpet" where they are held until I step on them.

I frequently use my shirt front - -

But for storage - either the magnetic ones or a plastic, covered container.

I didn't use to use pin cushions but recently started and now I am addicted. I find them so much easier to use than putting the pins back in the boxes; I have a lot fewer pin pricks, especially at the base of my fingernails.

I use them so that I don't have to dig into a box of pins to get one out. I made one and bought a couple. They never look neat when I use them.

I love homemade pin cushions! Like to keep the pins I use in a magnetic holder, too. But pincushions are great to decorate!!

Oh, when I am handsewing in my recliner, I use the right armrest. It is just right, and so handy!
