The biggest complaint most have with it cutting fabric is that the brother only cuts one layer, but it has very little waste of fabric, you can fussy cut with ease and its so fast. if you lay the same design on the fabric multiple times, it'll cut faster than it takes to roll the fabric thru the accu cut. I've not even seen the silhouette so I can't say on it but the brother has so many features including you can use it to scan photo's, docs, etc into your pc. Its great. Google it and you'll find lots of tutorials on it. Good luck with your choice.

I got the silhouette for Christmas. It only cuts one layer of fabric at a time too. You can also lay the same design out multiple times so it will cut more designs with less fabric waste. I know I'll be using it a lot in my quilting.

My LQS sells both, I have the silhouette and have done a lot of blocks with it. The owners of the shop prefer the silhouette, it does more than the scan n cut. when asked about the two the always recommend the silhouette. The silhouette does take some computer skills where the scan and cut does not. They say the quilt blocks from the scan and cut are not very accurate.
