Am I threading this right?
I'm VERY new to sewing! Found this old machine in my family garage and trying to see what i can do with it.. Replaced the old pulley, cleaned and oiled all the moving parts, but now I can't figure out how to thread it! The way ive been doing it seems to put a lot of tension on the line and the machine is having trouble getting spinning. Once it does it will go for a bit with the thread on the needle but won't make any stitches - then the line eventually breaks and the machine keeps spinning just punching an empty needle through the fabric. Needless to say I think I'm doing it wrong and would appreciate if anyone can help me understand how to thread this. I've attached a photo with annotations to try and help demonstrate how ive been threading. Ill take the thread (blue line) and feed it through parts 1-5 (marked in red). Hopefully the labels help give you something to reference for my understanding.

Welcome, what kind of machine is it?
No picture loaded. Is the file size smaller than 2MB? Did you click on the upload button? It is way over on the right, one usually needs to scroll over.
We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.
I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?

Sometimes something as small as the needle inserted with the flat side facing the wrong way will cause the machine to not make a stitch. We need to know what brand of machine it is and the model, because every machine is different.

I just looked at your profile and it looks like you have a White Rotary machine. There are some free manuals out there for White machines - one that may be close can be found at https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-se...white-12-x.pdf
There are also Domestic machines that are threaded similarly. There is a post at Domestic Rotary 153 (if you click on the link at the top right " Domestic Rotary 153" you can see the whole thread). There is also a good thread for threading the bobbin case at Directions for loading a White rotary bobbin (White Family Rotary, etc.)

oops sorry I didn't realize the picture didn't upload, here it is!
I must add that in the first day of playing with the machine I unknowingly unscrewed the take up spring and the whole spring and washer fell out.. I was careless not to observe exactly how they were originally positioned but I tried to put it back on the best I thought. Hopefully the spring looks correctly positioned here?

Here is another picture of the threading https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...0-img_5313.jpg that is from White Rotary Owners: Please help
and another https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...-threading.jpg
From my experience, you really have to "click" to get it threaded correctly.
