Just regular paint stripper. The latex is less likely to be trapped in the pores of the wood than an oil based paint. It's still a mess to deal with.

I would love the art deco cabinet. I'm hoping to find one for the right price some day too.

That is a nice desk in very good condition. It looks large, even though you say it's not as large as you might have hoped. Best of all, it has that platform so that you can use it for a free-arm or convertible machine (I'm thinkin' Kenmore ). Congrats!

Rodney, there was a #42 for sale up here for $50 obo. I'll be on the lookout for them since I now know you want one. They came in two styles: curved drawers on the right and flat-faced drawers behind a curved door. Both of mine are the latter style and in the red/black color scheme.

Btw, I always get a kick reading CL ads that advertise a sewing table/cabinet and they something like "Oh, and it still has the machine in it."

Thanks! I appreciate it. I'm picky though. I prefer any of the various dark ones. I already have the stool in walnut, I found it at a thrift store here in town. Too bad the desk wasn't there that day too. I'm not a fan of blond or pickled oak. The drawer style isn't important, I like both. I don't care if veneer is lifting, that can be repaired. I just think they're an outstanding example of Art Deco style, especially when you consider they're for such a utilitarian purpose.

The last one is actually a fairly decent price considering it has a 201-2 in excellent condition. It shows very little wear and polished, it would be stunning. But I wouldn't offer more than $150, maybe even $100. The cabinet needs work.

Sometimes it's best to wait.

I also have that cabinet (mahogany) with a 15-91 in it from the 40's. It looks like the second one that KenmoreRulesAll posted a Seattle CL for. My dh bought it for me at local antique place that rents space to people who sell their goods. In fact, he bought it as a surprise gift for me after I had drooled over the cabinet and all the extras in the drawers but said I had no room for it so would not buy it. He did, thankfully! Did not even realize at the time that I was also getting a great machine for both sewing and machine quilting. I eventually found a stool but it is not the exact one for this cabinet. It will work until I do find one though. You've got a nice find there and it will look great after that paint is removed.
