I think I found a fantastic bargain at our local Goodwill Outlet store.............this was marked $10.00 and I brought it home............the cabinet is huge...has very little wear and tear..........the machine was SO dirty I took a Clorox wipe to it..........it needs a lot more cleaning, but at least the first layer of dirt is off it now.....I was thinking I would get the cabinet and give the old machine back to the store.....BUT when I plugged it in and threaded it and sewed on it, MY GOODNESS, its really good...........in a drawer, there was the manual and a box of attachments to go with it.........what a find.........anyone know anything about this brand?? first one I ever had my hands on, a Pfaff .262 ..... I was thinking maybe the 60's for age? it sure sews a nice seam ...it's a zigzag too and says it does other stitches which I haven't tried out yet.........I hope I did the pictures correctly........

I'd go even further and say that's one of the best all-round domestic sewing/embroidery machines ever made. I had a 260, made in 1959, and identical to that one. It was amazingly good at everything and has the fastest motor I've seen on a domestic sewing machine. You have there a true bargain, and she will sew everything with German engineered exactness. Do you get the manual and pattern wheel? They're both available as downloads, the pattern wheel you might have to join the oldpfaffpforum on yahoo groups.
That machine goes for a minimum of $200 here in Australia, and probably more in the U.S. (and that's for the so-called 'portable' version).

wow.........thanks for telling me a bit about this one.......it sounds like I really did find a keeper.... so you think its about 1959-60- for age ..thanks....I got the manual and it has a picture of the pattern wheel, but I do NOT have the wheel..........thanks for telling me about that too...........I will go looking at that web site...I really am enjoying sewing on it...........it has a name..its "Ten Ten" as it cost TEN Dollars and it is my TENth sewing machine.........

Pfaff machines are great machines. My friend has been using hers for 60 years. Nothing has ever gone wrong with it and she has only had routine maintenance done to it. It was a present from her husband when they were first married, he wanted her to have the very best so it would last and it has. The funny part - though, I swear it weighs more than she does.

Enjoy your machine. You certainly got a bargain!

oh you are so right......this one weighs a ton and a half..............I have yet another question...what kind of bobbins do I need to order? it has only the one that was on it and I cant find any kind of marks on that..and the manual doesn't mention any number or size,etc for the bobbins that it needs......help please......thanks..........

After a quick search, Pfaff bobbins are unique to Pfaffs. You'll possibly have to order them, but they fit 213 to 280 according to eBay sellers (I checked a couple) and I imagine 300 series would be the same (300s are the same machine but free arm version).

My friend Amelia (QB name is Frudemoo) sold one for me. When she checked it so she could demonstrate it, I got a call from her. She said she really really wanted to keep it as her #1 machine and I had to do a lot of talking to get her to let go of it!
She's a couture dress maker, incidentally and had tested it sewing silk etc. I found her a Pfaff 230 as a replacement and she loves it. She compared it with her Bernina 640-2 favorit and said it was impossible to pick a winner.
You can look up the machine's serial number for the exact year of manufacture. I haven't the site bookmarked but it was easy enough to find.
