Two spools refers to to a National machine that did use 2 spools of thread. One was the upper thread and the other was the bobbin thread. I have one and it's a treadle. Not sure if they were ever e-machines or just people powered ones. Since the machine is narrower, he took a wider portion of another cabinet ( lighter in color top section shown in photo) to hold the machine on the front lip. Since the pins don't line up, he set the machine in one hinge pin and got a small metal plate the sets next to the Singer other hinge pin ( screwed in underneath by pin) for the machine to rest on. That metal plate swings out of the way so that other Singer machines can be used too. So one straight-leg treadle was used for Singer machine heads as well as the National Two Spools. Last weekend at the Mini TOGA in Sacramento CA, I showed how the conversion works in the straight-leg with the Two Spools and Singer 328K. Nancy |

My first stop in the morning was for a free Singer cabinet and Singer VS2, fiddlehead. The couple letting this one go for free started the renovation project 25 years age. They took some items off the cabinet to sand and after sanding was done the jar of parts, draw pulls, nuts and screws, were gone. That projected never got done for them. They posted Thursday night on CLs free cabinet for someone else to take over the project. Well, I'm the one that will be finishing this project. I feel they did all the hard work with the sanding; now, I just need to assemble. My second stop in the evening was for a FW that was hidden on CLs. The lady posted it as a Singer 15-91 with another 15-19 (post read two 15-91, portable and table). I took a looked at the posted photos and immediately sent off e-mail. She was happy to sell and I was happy to receive my first FW, (which will be my only e-machine). My husband was waiting for me each time I arrived back home to help unload the car. With the FW, he went to the back of car, opened hatch, and stated where is the machine! I chuckled and told him its sitting behind me. So, he goes to open the passenger seat door behind me and says "this is it…it's so light…no wonder everyone wants one". When I opened the box and showed him the box layout and machine, he was so surprised at the size. All night long he kept talking about how cute it is and that the FWs look like toys…and I should look for more…start a family. Again I chuckled because my 2- Two Spools, Melinda and The Cowboy, just got married. So now, they have their first child, Heather-FW. And grandma, Rosemary-VS2, has taken up residence too. There went that honeymoon! I also love your new VS2 fiddle base with the Victorian Decals! I have a VS2 fiddle base with the Painted Roses aka Rose and Cornflower decals on page 794 here. She sews perfect too! Congratulations ! And I am on my way today to see the Two Spools! I am very excited to go see her! Nancy |

Nancy BTW, this week, I have been working on a pair of Japanese clones. (I know Billy hates that term, but I love science fiction, so it stays!!) One is a Brother-made "Diamond", beautiful shiney black class 15 with interesting decals. #2 is badged "State", another class 15. This one is staying (!), as I have discovered it is lighter in weight than my other class 15 machines. I'll post when they're clean and running. Next up is a La Vinnie. Of course, I'm converting them all. . . . . Our world is kind of upside down here--my son has moved home again, and we have his 4 year old daughter most of the time. I'm trying to move a little faster to find more space for her. Also, I'm getting ready to go to NC for a week of vintage-sewing related activities, so busy, busy!! |

Looking at your pics of the bobbin winder, I believe all the parts are there. I think the parts are assembled wrong, the part that pops when the bobbin is full is under where the bobbin is mounted, it needs to be above the bobbin. HTH's edit, I think the two parts need to be switch around, bobbin wheel (tire) on the bottom screw and shoe on the top screw. |
