Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
If I posted a pic of a cabinet could someone here tell me what should go in it? The hole measures 7" x 14" with about a 1" x 3" piece cut out on the left of the machine by the bobbin plate. I love the cabinet but none of the Singers fit in it. Wish I could find a machine to fit it. Or a name or something on it. One large deep drawer on it on the right.

Ok tell me if I'm being too picky lol but I really want one of the neat colored ones. A two tone would be awesome! So I cruise right on by the black ones. Silly girl...but hey...not like I have to find one today right?
So are you thinking this machine on CL is not one to look at? I'll go check out shopgoodwill. Been watching CL & Ebay. Will see what's "new" at SGW.

I guess I'll go ahead & go see it.
Go and take a look and make a lower offer. The machine itself is very similar to my pink atlas, and it is my best FMQer.
Thank you! That is good to know since I want it to be my "go-to" machine for FMQ. Just talked to my brother & we are going to go look at it tomorrow (he is my body guard whenever I go to look at something on CL )
The handy little FW and I have been traveling this weekend, so I need to catch back up around here!
I did have another Red Eye (G0454177, Nov. 13, 1923) follow me home on Friday from an estate sale. I think it was cold and lonely sitting on a garage floor. Either that or it didn't want to be made into a lamp like the man watching the door and taking money suggested because it firmly attached itself to my hand and stayed there for the half-block walk to my car. Why do people always look shocked when you say you're going to use one of these sewing machines for sewing??? It doesn't move well and needs a good cleaning, but no rust, and the only decal wear I see is on the bed where it was used. I think I'm going to switch out the presser bar (side-clamp) and put it on the one I have already treadled (back-clamp).

Crud!! I so wish I was closer to this one...I *could* have my MIL pick it up for me, except that she only has a little car!! A little more spendy than I usually go for, but this is an EARLY 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure of the sub-model, but I do know finding one of these is almost like finding hen's teeth!!

My opinion about the Goodwill site....I've never seen a machine go for what you can get it locally! The machines go for way more than they're worth, usually. The shipping is a huge amount of the costs..and you can't return if there's a problem and they're typically not tested except to say it powers on. Big deal, that doesn't mean it sews. At least with ebay there's recourse if the machine doesn't work. I know Goodwill is a great cause, but I would only buy there if there were NO ebay and NO Craigslist(locally). If I had a friend picking up the machine who could check it out for me, that would be something I may consider. But, any machine I've ever even looked twice at the Goodwill site goes way over what it should really sell for.
