Nancy, I don't think Sears ever did, but there are machines out there with the Montgomery Wards name plates on them, and JC Penny sold a machine with their name as well.

That being said, I'm with you. I don't think Hitachi is a badge, but it may be a company not associated with the grills....

Talking about Sears machines. We saw one last summer that was a treadle and had Sears Robuck all over it. On the irons and the foot treadle. Had a cabinet that was in bad shape and had a coffen top. They wanted $50.00 for it. Reason for not buying was we would have had to carry it about 1/4 mile back to the truck. Tooo much for two old people to deal with. But, DH is still kicking his butt for not buying it. So you can bet if it should be back come June when the Flea Market is on again it will come home with us. This is the same Flea M. we bought the 12K mother of pearl machine. Usually have lots of machines just have to carry so far back to your truck or car.

Nancy, thanks. She did fine with her second surgery and should be fine now. This cat is worth her weight in gold now...

Did you catch my posting about finding out that the 319 is capable of lowering the feed dogs after all?

I think only the sun is that bright:> I love pink machines! But that pink...ouch. Is your 301 in really poor condition?

I took the throat plate part to my local paint store and they talked me out of painting it. They basically told me the spray paint I was hoping to get would not look the same as the rest of the baked on machine paint and that it would stand out:< So, my Elna will have to live with its chips. I guess the only way to really make a machine look decent with spray paint is to do the whole thing like you plan. Would dabbing the emblem with rubber cement work do you think? And then peeling it off afterwards?

It seems to be hanging on a spot in the part that the bobbin case sets in. In other words, the bobbin isn't catching but the part of the bobbin carrier that isn't removable is catching, hanging and breaking the thread. I hope this is making sense. So when the needle thread hangs in that area, it breaks. Could this be a tension adjustment problem. I watched Muv's video but it didn't seem to address the problem. Should I suggest that she take it to be repaired? The machine seems to work well other than the thread hanging. Oh, I don't know if it is hanging at the very same spot everytime.

Misty, it would be very helpful to know the model... One thing to check is if the bobbin case or assembly has any rust or burrs that could be catching the thread. In the pase, I've had to sand down a couple of rusty spots on cases that did something similar with the thread.

I'm glad she's ok.
Where did you post and how do you do it? Here is a link to the 319 we started ages ago:

Please post the feed dog info on there!!!!
By the way that machine is still waiting for POWER. I may just put a different light and motor on it just to make it go - the wires are horrid. It works great when I hand turn it - nice stitches...

Here is the knob that you turn to lower the feed dogs. Though, lowering them doesn't help with the ability to do FMQ. I've still not found a good hopping foot for the 319 and have not been able to do good FMQ. So....lowering the feed dogs doesn't do much. But, my hunt will go on.

I posted it on your 319 thread as well...

Candace, my 301 is in perfect shape. I just think she needs to look as good as she sews. I paid $61 and it's going to be mine until one of us dies, so why not have some fun with it. The paint on my Elna 62 is worn in spots, too, but I know what the machine has been asked to sew - including heavily beaded wedding dress fabric - so I will let her spots be badges of honor.

My pretty 15 clone with the shamrocks has a silver MW on the arm and a badge on the motor that says, "Montgomery Wards".
