Susan, If you want to make sure your colors are correct, just compare to the picture in the book. If the block ends up backward, in a reverse image to the one in the book, it's okay too. I wouldn't pick out the stitches and start over if that happens. Either direction looks good on the patterns. And your fabrics can be your choice, you don't need to make the blocks in the same colors as in the book if you don't want to. :-)

I seen a note where it said that for the paper piecing they should be done in reverse, but I didn't know what that meant. I will look closer today at the block in the book and see if I reverse my colors if that makes it come out, but I won't take out the stitches in this first block. I was just happy I was getting the paper piecing done correctly. I will do the coloring too with some colored pencils or crayons. I can see how that would help. Thanks for all the help, because I sure can use it.

OK, I think now from what I see, I am sewing the pieces correctly, but when I compared to the book, it was just the colors. I have my solid yellow, and then I have my green print so what reversed after I paper pieced was in the colors. So if in the book it showed one color on the right, then mine similar to it was on the left etc. So when I do my coloring sheets first I can go ahead at that time and do the reverse in colors if I need to there, and then it will come out. Does that make sense to you paper piecers?

The fabric, when it's sewn to the paper, lays on the back side of the paper. The front of the paper is the printed side of the paper, where you sew on the printed lines, and where you could color. After you color your paper, you could hold it up to the window, with the colored side touching the glass. What you see, with the daylight from the window coming through the paper, is where your colors of fabric will be. You could compare that color layout to what is shown for the block in the book.

Oksewglad, I agree it is sure is a nice experience. This is just what I needed. I am getting ready a bit later today to sew my first block together now. I have all parts done. I will post a picture of my first completed block. I hope it turns out the right size. lol...At times I have to lay down to try, and restore new energy(if that is even possible lol...) due to my lupus, sjogrens, and fibromyalgia. I am 62 and it's all catching up with me. lol...

Honchey I found a few colored pencils, but next trip to the store I am going to pick me up another pack.

JanRN are you making some blocks too? I haven't went back to read all the beginning threads, but I will be soon.

QuiltingNinaSue do you give your blocks your own name when you finish? I smiled reading about one of yours like lemon tree or lemonade. Even though they have the name given in the book, it would be cute to add along with the book given name our own name in our notebook.

Katybob I am sure it is nice down in Tampa right now. I was there years ago. I love the ocean, sand, and the warm breezes.

JuneBillie, if I were back in time in England, they would call me an 'original' doing my own thing. I look at each block and some seem to 'talk' to me and a story line comes through my thoughts. It started with the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt, telling stories of my childhood in relation to the block I made of my colors, not what the book said. And continued with the Pony Club. So it continues on some of the blocks in this series as well. It is my quilt so I make it my way. Flowers have to 'look' like a flower to be in my quilt. Some stories are not real stories, but some are real stories.

I could confuse you by saying my pp on right side of the print on the pp patterns, and I draw lines on the back side to stitch on for each piece. I use the templates on the right side of the fabric, and draw my lines with Gel Pens or the colored pens that are permanent because that line ends up on the back side of the block or is cut off. Some of what I do is because my left eye is blind because of an Optic Nerve "blowing out" in 1999. About three years ago, the right Optic Nerve swelled up, and I sought help at the right time, saving about 90 percent of its sight...on a good day.. not all days are good ones. Life goes on, and so does my quilting. . . at a slower pace since I am 74 this year and celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary on the 24th of this month. I had no idea how expensive a professional photographer was until today. Wow.

QuiltingNinaSue, Congratulations on your 50th Wedding Anniversary!!! That is just wonderful sweet girl. Thank you for sharing about your blocks and the relations you have with them. I always liked things around that have a story to them. It just makes them extra special so I will keep that in mind for myself. If I lived close to you, I would have my son look you up, because he is now a professional photographer, and have him do it as a favor.
