Jan! I recognize some of those patterns as ones I've made, but I don't remember making some of the other ones... Are those a mixture of the first FWS and the FWS we are doing presently? Or are some of the blocks ones later in the book? Wow, I'm confused... I remember you substituting the heart, and star for blocks you didn't want to do. But there are several other ones I don't recognize. Lovely, healthy grass, by the way! :-)

Susan, we have a similar story in our family. My aunt was in kindergarten and her teacher had each student root a begonia leaf, then plant it in a cup to give as a gift to their mother for Mother's Day. My grandmother kept the plant for years. She re-potted it several times and it grew huge, about 3 feet in diameter. When she died, it went to my mother. My mother had troubles keeping it healthy, and she gave it to my sister, who has a green thumb. My sister tried to discover the variety it was, and ended up taking it to Michigan State University's Horticultural Department, where it was identified. Under my sister's care, it was the first time we saw it bloom. During our lifetime, it was always a part of grandma's home, and we thought it could only be green. My sister rooted pieces of it for my other sister and myself. My son loved it growing up, and the story behind it, and asked for a rooting after establishing his household. The 'mother' plant has been in our family these four generations, and more than 100 years.

Here is a photo of my current large project. It is Bonnie Hunter's last mystery (Alletaire) which began the day after Thanksgiving last year. Needless to say, I am way behind. I took a picture of it, as I always do and put it on my desktop to see if I could spot any errors. Needless to say, you will see the error immediately! I have fixed that, and am in the process of sewing the rows together.

Jan, you need to get another dog! There are so many waiting for a good home and someone to love.

Susan, Marty's mom is a full blooded collie, very blonde and beautiful like Lassie. His dad was a black lab-- very sweet natured. Marty got the narrower collie head and ears, but the rest of him looks very labrador, as you can see. He had a brother identical to him, and a sister that got the collie colors but short hair like the two boy dogs. I don't know what my hubby and I would do with Marty now.

Jan, your 30's quilt is amazing! It's so much fun to see the blocks all set. I am also thinking of doing something other than the on-point setting. Some of the blocks I like on-point, but most seem to look better to me with a straight setting.

JeanieG, your Allietare is looking really good! I need to get mine put together.

I just love those quilts! Ya'll are doing great!
My DF/housekeeper needs to pick up her DGSon in Brady on Fri. She, another DF & I will go tomarrow & they will stay at my house then (after we get the DGS) we will come home on Fri. When they had the custody hearing DF & her DD stated that the meeting place would be Brady & not Austin. Hooray, this is one DF I won't have to miss!

Good news QNS on your dr. visit. I had one too and was reprimanded for not getting my mammogram this year yet. Oops, will have to schedule that. Love the stories about the plants. I can keep one alive for a little bit but then turn them over to my daughter who really has the green thumb. Pretty quilts Sewbizgirl, JanRN, and JeanieG! I can barely keep up with this one but I am working on a portrait quilt too. Love Marty too Sewbizgirl, You can see my buddy 'Bugs' in my avatar. Don't know what I would do without him. Thinking of getting him a pal sometime soon.

sewbizgirl - love your donation quilts. What a wonderful thing to do!

Jan - you are moving right ahead with the FWS 30's quilt. Looking good girl! I've got my blocks all stacked in a box! I had them on my display wall, but took them down when I started completing the Alletaire blocks.

Fun to see what everyone has been working on!

Pam, I did notice Bugs... He looks like a good doggie and great friend.

Jeanie, I got stalled out on Allietare because it just seemed so endless. I have mine upstairs at my Singer 301 and will work on it when I get annoyed with hubby (or what he's watching on TV), and need to retreat upstairs for some alone time. Eventually I will get it done. I'd like to give it to my son and his wife as a wedding present.

I still have the Grand Illusion mystery quilt from last year sitting around unquilted. For shame, for shame...

Happy belated birthday Bev...and another year of wedded bliss for the youngsters Carrie and MrCarrie... I'm trying to follow you all (yinz, as Jan would say), just haven't had the time to comment much....

Love everyone's pictures..Jeanie, the colors in your BH are beautiful. Jan, the batiks are sew pretty, you will have this done in a flash.....
    sewbizgirl...great finishes..thanks for sharing here...I don't always see "what's new" each day.
Love hearing all the chatter...going fix supper for MrOK...it's taco salad tonight. He's been beat with the extra work of spring and FarmerSon out of commission. Just had 2 more cows freshen today...each with a heifer. That's 6 heifer calves out of the last 5 freshening..yes my math is right. A set of twins...glad they were both heifers as in bull/heifer combos 92% of the time the heifer is infertile AKA a restarting...ok supper needs to be fixed..later

My Grand Illusion is about half quilted! Shame on me too!!! Every year I get later and later getting Bonnie's Mystery Quilts done. Oh well, they all turn out beautiful in the end, even though her colors are not something I would choose. My favorite is my first one - Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll! It has been on my bed for several years!

So glad to hear from you OK, come back again soon.

Really nice o see what everyone has been working on in the wonderful pictures. Everyone has done a great job, so nice to see the sewing projects of all. What a relief when they are done.

Past history of our Irish Chains and Owls....25 different owls and I made three of them...dh wanted one so ts hanging in his bedroom. He made the first one that is on the bed in the guest room...Name: 1-DSCN0460.JPG

Size: 45.7 KBPinwheel on point as demonstrated by Jenny Doan at the Missouri Star Quilt Company that I am binding...all four corners turned out perfect! Will try to take pictures of some of the newest projects later. Including the Floral Irish Chain first made on QB by JeannieS, and the pattern explained to me by Quilter 65...Take care and have a wonderful day.

I am going to Cantril, Iowa Dutchman's Store today with the neighbor lady, Patty. We will take the two quilts to be hand quilted, and take my 1540 Bernina Sewing machine to be fixed in Memphis, Mo., and eat out somewhere special, Yesterday was at One of a Kind, a tea house and B & B in Centerville, Ia. Later when we are back home, I will set out as many new flowers that I can, then finish them tomorrow. Annuals and perennials (misspelled this morning my mind as a senior moment!) Onward into the day.

QNS, what a busy day you have planned... but a fun one! Your quilts are lovely. The owls look like hand painted work. Did you paint them? And is your hubby a quilter too? I love Irish Chains. One of my very first quilts was an IC.

YOU CAN PLAN the day, and it will happen very differently. How many knew it was National Prayer Day? It was and the Mennonites did not open their stores today....Lots of people were discovering that as they pulled up to park as we did. Poor store will will filled tomorrow, with people shopping for Mother's Day We came back home and I fried chicken with Broccoli and baked potatoe and gravy for lunch. After lunch Patty and I gathered rhubarb for her and her large family.

We spent the afternoon planting the plants I picked up last Tuesday in K. Three flats of marigolds, cock's comb and snap dragons are planted in dh's Iris bed . Have the Clematis and other plants to do tomorrow. No QB work until they are planted.

DS sent me an unusual Mother's Day gift. One) it was addressed to him at this address, so dh called to let them know, DS called me and said 'It's your Mother's Day Gift'. When Patty and I got to my house, DH had opened it up, not understanding whom it was for....and did not understand the gift. Growing up with foster grandparent in the old days before TV & cell phones, we spent many a snowy night in Southern Iowa playing cards and Dominoes. They were very proud of their double twelves and we kids learned how to add up figures quickly in playing them... Then a friend said she had found double 15s; i bought some and DS and I conversed about them at our 50th party. He said he had seen a higher than that... so DS sent me a Mexican Domino set of double eighteens. (no instructions, jsut the turning 'round house' to start the game into action.) Any domino players out there?

QNS, Such a nice pattern of quilting on the Irish Chain that has the flowers in the centers. It looks like a 'so-happy-and-quick-and-get-it-done-so-I-can-enjoy-my-quilt' type of quilting.

I had forgotten that today was the National Day of Prayer, too. It sure isn't publicized much. Sorry you didn't get into the shop QNS. Glad they were praying for our country!

I spent the bulk of my afternoon repairing an old quilt for a widowed man in our church. It was made in the 80's and he said he sleeps under it every night... so I'd better deliver it to him first thing tomorrow. It smelled so terrible I could hardly stand to handle it. Probably been years since that big heavy thing was washed. Anyway, it's done and so is my good deed.

This evening I started sewing together a short sleeved button up shirt I had cut out for myself. I love to make myself shirts. They have patterns according to bra CUP SIZE nowadays... imagine that! They do make the clothing fit well. Once I finish the shirt I'll knock out a few more 30's blocks.

Hope everyone's having a relaxing evening.

I was out today and wanted to see the other FW books, so I went to Barnes and Noble bookstore. Very disappointing that they didn't have a one of them in stock, nor the Sylvia's Wedding Sampler I also wanted to see. What they did have, tho, was a FW 1930s blocks coloring book. It would have been nice except that the pages were printed on this heavy yellowy paper-- yuck. Yellowy enough to distort whatever colors you would put on it. Boy the coloring book craze has really taken over. They had probably 100 titles of coloring books. Some of them would make great embroidery patterns for hand embroidery. (Light bulb goes on....)

I got some weird news while I was out today, that I'm still shook up over. I had some bad abdominal pain about three weeks ago, and nausea, dizziness and fainting. I got referred to a gastro-enterologist (sp?) by my FNP and it took till this week to get the appt. This dr. scheduled a colonoscopy for next week, and drew blood for a liver function test. Today they called me and said my liver enzymes are HIGH. So now he's scheduling me for an ultrasound next week too, for my gall bladder, and a test for hepatitis! I don't understand this at all... I am the healthiest person I know! I don't smoke or drink, I eat well, am not overweight, get enough sleep and work out several days a week. How in the world could I have hepatitis? Wish I knew more about all of this. I don't even feel the slightest bit sick. I would appreciate your prayers. I want this all to go away. Maybe it's not as big a deal as I'm making it....

Sewbizgirl, do a google search and found out more info for yourself before next week. If you have had a blood bank, a blood transfusion it could have been in it as I understand it. JanRN is our 'official unofficial' nurse on line. Prayers are coming your way, think positive and trust the Man above to be with you through the whole thing. You can google www.MDmeds.com on line for info. May all the Irish good luck be with you.

sewbizgirl, That's the main reason I don't like to go to the doctor-- I don't want to hear bad news. Yes, we will pray about that. I'll tell my sister to pray with me about it for you.

Thanks so much, ladies. I'm feeling better about it all. I haven't had any blood transfusions... nothing, really. I'm never sick! Don't feel sick at all now... which is why I can't believe I could have hepatitis. Will find out more on Tues. I guess. Thanks for the kind support!

Hello Girls, I have been just kind of jumping around on the board, and have a post if you ever go to the Diary Section, about my great niece who is very ill.

Sewbizgirl, I just seen this about your appointment coming up, and what you have heard so far. I have just finished sending up prayers for you. Do let us know what you find out. Sometimes even very healthy people can have their body chemistry get out of wack so it will be good for you to find out.

I have slowly been working on those tiny little pieces in the second block for this weeks. I would have already had it done, but have been balancing several different things. My lettuce in the container on the front porch is growing fast, and we have already ate a tiny bit of it, but more when it's a bit bigger. As I said before that all my house plants are re-potted. On the phone a lot about my great niece, and her condition. Her school is having a fund raising for the family. Our little community is so good about things like that.

Hope all of you have a 'HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY'

I am going to try and get in a bit more sewing today, and get rid of a bit more junk around the house. I have a lot I want to clear out to make things simpler when trying to clean. If I had what I wanted right now, I would have a tiny little cottage style home, with a tiny little yard with lots of flowers and just a couple of pretty trees so it would all be easier to take care of, and enjoy. What I do have, and I am so grateful for it is a half acre of land from my parents who gave us each about that much, and a manufactured home which I bought new in 1999. Plenty big for us, but so many things that now need to be done. Slowly but surely they will get done, and I will be happy. I am happy anyway so it's all ok. Ok, my sweet hubby is a pack rat, and I am not. Although he is trying to do better. It's all coming back on me though, because I do qualify as a pack rat when it comes to my fabric and all sewing things. lol...
"Sometimes it's OK if the only thing you did today was breathe."
Good friends are right there with you.

    Susan
