I worked from the book only for almost two years and finally broke down and got the software. It is not intuitive. I read the book/manual that came with it and when I (finally) figure out how to do something (like move the pieces around before printing) I write my own notes.

I figured out how to move the pieces, but I prepare the papers for more than one block at a time and was confusing myself! So . . . I decided to print one block per page and I DO use greyed out printing so that I don't make a mistake with background and print fabrics when I'm actually doing the paper piecing. I buy the Crayola Doodle pads for the paper (not expensive) and decided to go ahead and use the ink. If I don't I'll probably make many mistakes and will end up using more ink in the long run.

I have found the book, in combination with the blog thatquilt.blogspot.com, is sufficient. I use the method of ironing on wax paper and piecing that way. When I do, my squares are MUCH better than when I don't. I'm not willing to buy a Windows computer in order to use the software. ;-)

Might as well keep it traditional right jillaine. She did not use a computer............. Now for those of you more savy on pp and computers, you go girls. I have to do it the old fashioned way.

I noticed that Nancy answered Cindy's question about printing "the chart" by referring to an earlier post of mine on this thread - #17 to be exact. [For those not sure about the 'linking procedure' on this thread, it actually works exceptionally well, but you do need patience! - All links to posts in this thread will look the same in the text and show up in a turquoise shade, but the system really does get you to the right post on the screen, you just have to wait for it to completely load the page/post]

Now, I'm also thinking the "chart" question is somewhat ambiguous since sew4nin just gave us a link for a spreadsheet wherein you can keep track of the number of pieces in your personal baby jane construction. Once you get that set up, you can print it easily.

Jillaine - I totally understand you!! the only thing you will miss not having the software is the Sharon Mastbrook chart. There should be a way to create something similar on a Mac I would presume since it is so "art-friendly."

Failed to get the chart and the directions for it; does not speak well of my success of getting it to work. I have finished A-1 to A-7 in the reproduction blocks...but my arthritic right knee has complained of yesterday's sewing action.

Have the Feb. and March kits for Dear Jane in their respective envelopes...waiting to be opened.

Gus, Thanks for the PM...lots of debris in cyberspace... sometimes I think I am there too. I'm excited about all the activity/interest in this thread. I have been working on a block this afternoon. I think I need to "attend" classroom. If I get one done correctly I will be shouting loudly.

I created a Word file that is basically a table, and I "place" the images into each square.
Not as pretty, but it functions.
