Hello everyone... I have not been online here in sometime. I have been working on the Dear Jane blocks since April. I have row A and B completed and a few other blocks. It has been my thoughts of quilting as I go process and I was wondering if anyone here has thought of doing this or has been doing so. What has your thoughts been on using this method? I wish I had been in with all of you from the start, but I was not sure I was able to do such little blocks! I can say that I have forged ahead and given it a go and so far have managed to complete each thus far, Not perfect by far, but I just love each so far!

hi roseOfsharon, i have around 33 blocks & 3 tri's done so far...
i did start 'quilting as I go' the first 20 or so... i haven't got around to the rest yet, but it will be good for me as i haven't a 'scooby' how else i would quilt it afterwards...
you and i are about the same with this project...

i have been making most of the hand sewn ones up to now. these are the ones i can take to work to complete, like all the little applique blocks with 'melons' etc...

i've really enjoyed making them to date, it's been great watching these ladies steam ahead each week. they're such an inspiration!!

i will need to look way way back at their posts to see that i'm making my blocks ok, and look for any pointers on 'tricky' ones!!

'we' WILL get there!! oh yes! we will!!!!!!!
xxxxxxxx

I didn't think I'd get back to DJ this week, but boy I must have been avoiding my chores and errands like crazy because I was able to finish several. Glad I'm able to catch up a little.

E-12 Mary Ruth's Corset. Cute little block. :)

E-13 Moth in a Web. I did this one a little differently than thatquiltblogspot or aunt reen. If I didn't, I knew those 4 little outside triangles would be positioned wrong.

E-5 Rising Sun

E-6 Michelle's Medley. Love the center part of this block.

Very nice blocks Cindy - have you had time to sleep ??? ha ha !
Sorry I have not been here - I am going through a bit of a time at the mo. Had some tests done and they discovered some fluid in the womb - which needed to be investigated. Long story short - whilst under anaesthetic - they perforated my uterus. So the procedure was stopped and I have to go back to hospital next Thursday to have it done again. Whilst already worrying myself silly - this has NOT helped at all !
Hence my sashing on my DJ has ground to a halt as I just can't concentrate. I have all of row A and B done and hope to get on with it again soon. Of course the tennis at Wimbledon has been on - which has had some really good matches in the last few days - so that has occupied my brain !!
Although I haven't been here - I watch all the posts - some really lovely blocks coming on !!
Take care and I will let you know how I get on.

You were really on a roll, Cindy! You must be pretty close to catching up. Love all your blocks! Dotty, I'm so sorry you're going through such an ordeal. My thoughts are with you.

I've been putting a few rows together and am kicking myself for not starting earlier as we'd originally planned. It's not nearly as much fun as making the blocks!

Hello Beauties Ladys!
CindyA ... very beautiful blocks! And a lot!!! Congratulations!
Dotty ... I'm so sorry you're going through such an ordeal. Please, take care and please keep us abreast of its developments.
Gus... beautiful blocks!
Katybob ... very nice block and tri!
Anael ... I like your block and fabrics!
I am not sewing Dear Jane or anything like patchwork. I started a course of sewing that has absorbed all my time, despite being a weekly class, so I have not touched my projects. I hope to organise myself and come back soon!
A great hug to each one!

Dotty - you've got to feel better soon!! btw ...I am a medical attorney  and I would really love to come visit you! [guess I can't really practice British law:(] keep those docs in line!!!!

Cindy - love the blocks ...gotta ask a question - what are the threads for?
Gladys - so sorry you can't join us, but I told Cindy too the other day - not quite sure I'll be done on time as I have to focus on getting something finished for our guild quilt show
Gus

Monica, I kept meaning to ask what kind of law you specialize in. :)

The threads on my blocks: when I'm done with the block I increase my stitch length to the longest length and sew a little piece of paper to the back of the block with the block number and name. I wanted to keep them labeled and it won't bother me to take out 2-3 stitches as I always 'prune' the back of my blocks right before I sew them together.

Katybob, I received the iron in the mail Saturday!!! It has a little weight to it, doesn't it? Took me a few minutes to get used to that but I really like that it's helping me press seams flat. Thanks again for that link. I can imagine it's not as fun putting it all together as it is making the blocks. I could put rows A through E together now but I have it in my head to lay it all out and make sure I like it before I assemble it. I never liked B-2 and B-3 beside each other but now that we're this far into the quilt it doesn't seem that big of a deal. Really, it's probably not even noticeable, when I first made those two blocks I thought it was awful. :D But part of me feels that it's wrong to change the layout. Hmmmm . . . something to keep thinking about.

I have hopes of catching up on the blocks and getting it assembled on schedule. But we shall see . . . I do have other projects around the house and all my other quilting projects are on hold.

Dotty and Monica, yes, make sure to take care of yourselves! And all others who are facing medical concerns at this time as well.

Oh yes - Cindy - I too have a major problem with B2 and 3 together and I will switch them. Also I made the Florence Nightingale A-8 in reds because of the 'red cross' and Jane's is blue. My A-7 I also made red as Jane's is red [snicker....oh oh....dumb dumb] Yes - that put two reds right next to each other. I'm switching them around. I had every intent on QAYG and assembling as I went along in 4x4 and 4x5 sections, but I started to see blocks I didnt really want next to each other so I'm waiting til they're all done and rearranging them on that chart. So it's not the same as Jane's I waffle about wanting to try to make it look like hers and failing miserably - hence my name "Not Quite Jane!"

I only 'practiced' law while I was clearly practicing - as a student intern. I passed the Calif Bar on my fifth try Feb '06 [my professors kept telling me I knew too much law and should leave some of it outside the building - also that I am anal about details - too many... and grammar even though it doesn't seem like it during texting and blogging. Interestingly though - those who couldnt write in my class passed on their first try and I passed when my computer froze in 'shift lock' I lost over an hour and I had to speed write my answers] At any rate I took the exam I passed the week after my DD got her first serious behcets symptoms, found out I passed May 20, first DGS born Jun 9, Mom had major heart attack July 3 and by the time my DS and DDIL who each worked full time looked for daycare, I volunteered for the next four years because there was no way I could justifiably help legal clients while visiting Mom in nursing care, running to docs with DD. I loved every minute of it, even though I did get tired! As an intern though - I took Medicare secondary payer denials up on appeal - won each case - got Health Net, Kaiser, and Secure Horizons all sanctioned some big time. The education has helped me with both my DD and Mom's medical care tremendously. There have been times I toy with the idea of writing a book.
....this is getting lengthy and clearly not DJ!
