Fabric Galore 01-30-2012 10:51 AM

I finally made my 1st block on Sat. and I had hopes of making one yesterday but between Sunday school, church and then an afternoon concert the time flew by. My goal is to make 1 block each day until I get caught up. I can't wait to get into my sewing room this afternoon.

don't try to 'wing it' by making a block and assume too much an hour after after flying from L.A. to Sacramento late one night and driving back the next day....

Yes, B-1 is reverse applique! duh....... so last night I thought I would rather do some handwork than stitch on the machine and had better get going quick [since I felt obligated to 'catch up' being I started this thread...]

Well.... using a template of the circle I made 4 and appliqued them on top :( :( :( !! I have done reverse applique many many times and actually like it. The circles on top give it a totally different look. Hmmmm.. since I needleturned right on the edge, do you think I can slit the background in middle of the circle and flip it?? I will give this a shot and report back!

Thanks, Nan for the A1 tute!!! I will give that one a try too...walk the dog first - maybe I will think more clearly......

Enjoy the day :)

Ooops, appliqued mine to the top! Hey! It's done!

Had fun making a few blocks today - hope to get caught up tomorrow!!
As I'm working on the blocks, I'm leaving the paper on till I'm ready to piece
them all together

Oh my gosh, all the blocks I've seen thus far are fabulous! I'm on the list but much to my chagrin, I haven't started yet & I keep kicking myself to get going! Life & work are hectic but I'm hoping come Thursday, I'll have my fabrics ready to sew. But in all honesty, the more I read here, the more I'm getting nervous. Some things/notes seem so confusing. Having said that, I know I will get lots of help here should I stumble! So bear with me, I'll be jumping in soon.

Maureen -
don't worry - or be nervous & give it a try... you will find it very addictive and will have to contain yourself to keep from moving on ahead of the rest of it. As you read through the pages of this thread, I'm sure you found many who have forged on. The best site for help [besides us!!!] is the http://thatquilt.blogspot.com site
In fact here... http://thatquilt.blogspot.com/2009/01/6.html you will see she claims that block A-6 [the first one I scheduled] takes a mere 10minutes! Once you get your fabrics figured out, it may even be an overestimate. For me the most time consuming part is to decide which fabrics to use!!

A couple of members had great ideas - SheriR has all similar colors in one container and she moves it to a 'used' container after she has used it in a block. Also check out Spartanquilter's design wall on post #135 of this thread. She has decided which main fabric she wants for each position and takes it off her board when she is ready to do that block!!

Do think a little before you start sewing.... :( if you look at a few of my posts earlier today you will find out that I appliqued block B-1 instead of reverse applique. I actually clipped away the background from behind the circles, removed the 'yo-yo thread' I used to pull the circle around a template, and flipped it around to the back so it looks like a reverse applique [do NOT try this at home!!!! hehe] The problem is my off white threads show because although they were nicely tucked under, when the circle was flipped under the background, the stitches stayed on top :(
This is not meant to discourage - even with the re-do it didn't take long!!
Gus
