Of course it's doable thimblebug, but I'm not planning to finish in 3 weeks :)

QuiltingNinaSue 12-29-2013 02:07 PM

Surprised myself and found the book on my quilt book rack. Do I dare say I will join when I am overloaded with other things? I have enough fabric in my stash I could if I can find the time. Looks like a lot of fun. I like the schedule you have going on forward, Anael. Worse thing, it would wind up as an UFO; best thing, it just might get finished!

Anael 12-29-2013 02:13 PM

Hi QNS, great you're joining also :) It is a lot of fun and our group is still growing! I never knew you have the book, you never mentioned it as far as I remember. It won't wind up as an UFO, you can always make potholders or tablerunners :D :D

thimblebug6000 12-29-2013 04:59 PM

Just checking on their site & see a page of corrections in case you need them for your version of the directions. http://www.ctpub.com/client/client_p...rata/10686.cfm

hopetoquilt 12-29-2013 07:07 PM

I just ordered the book from Barnes and Nobles today.

mirabelle 12-29-2013 11:48 PM

Oh Anael you will be messing with my "rattled" mind. No page 1, page 2 page 3.:D:D:D Now I have to go make two new blocks. Oh by the way the computer is fixed and I am BAAAAACCCKKKKKK:D:D

Psst DD and I started a new quilt today just because I don't have enough on the go...

DD has cooked dinner so will catch up on the other site either tonight or tomorrow..

Thanks Thimblebug! When you have an older book you need those corrections.

Hopetoquilt, welcome to the group :) It's great to see more people want to join us.

Here are my blocks for this week

Anael 12-29-2013 11:53 PM

Hahaha Mirabelle, I just saw your post, we must have been writing ours together :D :D
You don't have to follow the schedule, you know? Just post your two blocks, it might create confusion though :):)

And what's another quilt.....you will be finished end of this week and need another new project!

WMUTeach 12-30-2013 07:01 AM

Thank you for the plan. I for one need it. It is so overwhelming to just look at all of those blocks. Where do I start? Well, now I know. As soon as I get Christmas off of my quilting counter, I will get started, again! Tee-Hee, Hee.

QuiltingNinaSue 12-30-2013 07:10 AM

Anael, I have a personal library of Quilt books and magazines of several hundred; among them are two Elm Creek quilt books as I really enjoyed the Elm Creek novels. Love your schedule, so far, and think its a doable timeline. Challenge will be to maintain the colorful array of blocks that you will be displaying each time...but I think my stash is up to that challenge...a riot of color. Background will have to be a neutral, blending in to 'calm' the colors...you have me thinking about the whole effect as we do each one...putting the slashing on each one left side and top as its completed. Corner stones?? Still thinking.

deltadawn 12-30-2013 07:24 AM

Anael ,
I did 10 blocks some days .... admittedly I didn't sleep much over those weeks !!! If I can work out how to post pics I will try and get some up for you .

Here are some of my Sylvia blocks ... The pile then some individual blocks ! I also did some of my own blocks to go with these which may be mixed in !

Anael 12-30-2013 08:24 AM

Oh Lindsay, those blocks are beautiful! I love those soft colours! It will be a stunning quilt!

QNS, your stash it up to that challenge :) With my first Sylvia I used cornerstones for the first time and I have to say, it's a bit more work but it's worth it. With this one I'm doing another approach, at least that's what I'm thinking now. Might change my mind :D

WMUTeach, you're welcome! Sometimes it's not easy to start a project like this with so many blocks.

DottyD 12-30-2013 09:18 AM

Hi Lindsay,
Your blocks are so very nice - great colour choice !
Nice talking to you the other day on "live chat " -

Beautiful blocks, ladies. Maybe I will start mine tomorrow.

mirabelle 12-30-2013 09:49 PM

Wow those are beautiful blocks Lindsay, ok I am inspired to start a new block today, so off to my cave I go hi ho hi ho

Anael 12-30-2013 11:03 PM

Thimblebug, your blocks are beautiful!

Bluelady 12-30-2013 11:28 PM

Oh, I started this one several years ago, then set it aside. I wonder where it is.. It wouldnt hurt to add a few more blocks to it this coming year!

We seem to have started posted pics of blocks early so here are my first two blocks. I am using the same background fabric and main fabric and mixing it up with some tone on tones for contrast.

Changing a jpeg to a bitmap in EQ5 takes away alot of the proper colouring, maybe someone can give me some advice on this?

Anael 12-31-2013 03:14 PM

Thanks Thimblebug. The lay out is there but the colours are off. When I tried to copy blocks into EQ I had the same, blocks were there but colours were way off! It's a great way to keep track of the progress. I'm using an excel file for my blocks.

Anael 12-31-2013 03:26 PM

There are free converters online but can't you save the picture as bitmap right away?

I've tried scanning them and saving directly as a bitmap and the quality is even worse :( I have an old works program on this computer & haven't been able to figure out importing a picture to use in a spreadsheet. On my laptop.... I can see the function to insert the picture but it's huge & I haven't used that program to know how to get the photos to shrink to the size of the spreadsheet cell. How do you do it on yours, maybe mine might be similar? Also... can you post a picture here of what your spreadsheet looks like? Thanks.

I'm using a free resizing programm: http://pixresizer.en.softonic.com/
When you have your spreadsheet and clicked on insert a picture, you have to choose from your computer which one. Once incerted you can make that picture fit into the spread sheet by 'taking' one corner and move it till it fits a cell. I use three cells down and one across for 1 picture. I have my first Sylvia spreadsheet as a pic

thimblebug6000 01-01-2014 09:26 AM

Oh WOW... that's really cool.... I need to see if I can figure this out, thanks so much, I hate the way the EQ skews the colours in bitmaps.

thimblebug6000 01-01-2014 10:05 AM

Anael, thank you I managed to make an excel spreadsheet on my laptop and insert the pictures, but this computer with microsoft works 2000 spreadsheet doesn't have an insert picture function that I can see. Oh well, time for a walk and then off for our New Years Day luncheon!

QuiltingNinaSue 01-01-2014 10:09 AM

Thanks for the site and the how to, Anael. Will think about it and see if I can make it work...lovely blocks in both Sylvias. Great job there, Anael. Now if I can half as well, I will be happy.

Anael 01-01-2014 10:14 AM

You're welcome Thimblebug. I don't know MS works 2000 so I can't help you there.

QNS, sure you can! Thanks for your kind words :) I know you will do a great job on the blocks!

mirabelle 01-01-2014 11:12 PM

Thanks Anael for the link, may get DS to set it up for me as it will be a great tool to have..

I have been avoiding my tiny applique pieces all day:D

Anael 01-01-2014 11:18 PM

Which block are you working on Mirabelle? I'm curious :D

You can install that Resizer yourself. Just click 'download', when it's done downloading hit 'run' and it will install on your computer.

mirabelle 01-02-2014 03:42 AM

Posies round the Square, gosh these pieces are tiny, but I am soldiering on, not one to give up too easily. Tomorrow I want to draw up Kansas Troubles and paper piece it, works better for me than tiny pieces

Anael 01-02-2014 04:15 AM

Yes, those pieces are tiny, specially the leaves :D
I renamed the Kansas block and called it Troubles in Kansas. I tossed the first one and used pp for the second one.

gardnergal970 01-02-2014 05:27 AM

You can also resize with Paint. Beautiful blocks, Anael.

Anael 01-02-2014 10:14 PM

Thanks GG!

Mirabelle, I'm so sorry, I totally forgot to tell you I love your blocks ! ! !

Anael 01-03-2014 02:11 PM

For those who follow the schedule: 2 days left to post your blocks :) It's no contest so don't worry if you're not ready with the blocks.
