Have the book, but committed to Dear Jane this year. This BOW would be just the thing to do for Sylvia's sampler. Will follow along. May get drawn in.

Crqltr 01-05-2014 07:49 AM

I just ordered the book also...will have some catching up to do, gives me some time to figure out some colors!

Karen G 01-05-2014 09:33 AM

I found my book! Does that count?

Anael 01-05-2014 11:59 AM

Karen G, only if you post the pictures of the blocks due today :D :D

QuiltingNinaSue 01-05-2014 12:24 PM

I did, I did, I did post pictures, Anael.

Anael 01-05-2014 12:55 PM

Yes I know QNS :) Your blocks are beautiful, like always :)

mirabelle 01-06-2014 03:31 AM

I agree Anael, that block should be renamed Trouble in Kansas, tried 5 times (remember I don't give up easily) to draw that block up but either my ruler was off or I was holding the pencil wrong, or I wasn't wearing my glasses:D but one square was always smaller than the rest... SOOOOOOO I decided to cut all my pieces 1/2 inch larger and cut them down to size, worked perfectly:thumbup: but gosh 3/4 inch HST:shock:

Anael 01-06-2014 03:56 AM

:D :D I have a foundation pattern which I"m going to use this time!

sewNso 01-06-2014 04:06 AM

OMgoodness. Another BOM. these are sooooo beautiful. how am I going to get all these done. ? just started in January, like a week ago, and someone has ALL those beautiful blocks done already? I might be able to get the book, and get caught up. PP software available?

I think I might already have this book. it sounds soooo familiar.

Anael 01-06-2014 04:20 AM

LOL no SewNso, those aren't the blocks we did already this year!
Just make 2 a week and you'll be finished before you know it :)

BArnold 01-07-2014 06:09 AM

I made this for my God-Daughter's wedding present. AND it was my first quilt, I spent many of hours spent ripping out seams and starting over. I wish I had started my quilting experience with something a little more tame. It turned out beautiful and she loves it. My own daughter wants one but not sure I am ready to make another one right now. I have others lined up to be made. Good luck and have fun!!

Anael 01-07-2014 06:51 AM

BArnold, you're like me. I started my Sylvia shortly after I started quilting. It has been a learning curve :)

marilynmalloy 01-07-2014 12:47 PM

Well, I've got the book... and I think this is all the excuse I need to order the fabric,.... oh more fabric :) yum.

So I am a bit behind , but will catch up once the fabric gets here I think :) I'll be ready!!

Anael 01-07-2014 12:59 PM

Oh marilynmalloy, how sad you have to go and buy more fabric :D :D
Good luck on the hunt!

I promised the husband I would slow down this year... not looking that way. Poor husband.

Anael 01-07-2014 01:54 PM

This year is still young :D

Haha. Not likely to slow down to be honest. :) Mmmm, fabric.

Besides, whenever he complains, I can just remind him of our vacation that we started on Jan 1. (and are back from now).
We got to the hotel, and he complained that I didn't bring any quilts with me for his comfort. Or to work on as he rested under the other end (I have a pile I am handstitching the binding on). haha

Just call my a sucker.......

1st week of Sylvia's Bridal Quilt

I got the book because I won a UFO contest last August. When I started seeing all the blocks i could not resist. Will be using the blue as the backgrounds throughout, it was in my stash. Hopefully I can make the whole thing from stash. Need brights during this blue cold winter.

I am also trying to work on my Dear Baby Jane in Pinks and Browns. I have 20 blocks done on it.

marilynmalloy 01-09-2014 09:55 AM

Ordered my fabric last night!!!
Doing it in solids. mainly blues. and a bit of Steel to highlight bits and parts. And white background.

I think it will look quite good.... hopefully it will get here soon so I can catch up. But even a month behind shouldn't be to bad, as long as I am ahead on my other projects in the week it will take for the fabric to arrive...

Anael 01-09-2014 12:08 PM

giquilt, your blocks are great!

thimblebug6000 01-09-2014 04:42 PM

Has anyone finished and posted their pictures from this 2nd week? I've still got company so not much sewing going on.

Finished yes, posted no. I will :)

After finishing Sylvia 1 I told myself with the second one I won't do any applique so I substituted A4. It's a Farmer's Wife block I couldn't use in that one so now it's in Sylvia 2:)

djmat 01-10-2014 03:29 AM

I love watching all of your fabulous little blocks appearing! It will a great year for all of you to finish, YOU CAN DO IT!
I'm inundated with 22 quilts or I'd be in the mix, too (Postage Stamp 1 & 2, Blue Bargello, Yo-Yo, Steeler Nation, Charming Addition to mention a few, oh, & two repairs). Carol Doak's 50 Fab Stars & DJS Books in shipment to start when I finish some of my UFOs. Gosh, I really want to do Sylvia's soon! Best wishes to all of you! D J

Anael 01-10-2014 04:14 AM

You will be welcome whenever you start djmat!

Since I am committed to Dear Jane also, what is the most current thread for a Baby Jane? (I see your posts in the ones I am doing, this and medallion. You seem on top of it all).

Anael 01-10-2014 06:43 AM

There is one Jane thread at the moment and that's where we all post. There will be a new thread soon as far as I know.

I case you are wondering what the little white stickers are, I do this on all my blocks for organization. Ink pin on freezer paper ironed to fabric, it stays, and does not stain when removed. No lost or pricks due to pins.

Anael 01-12-2014 10:47 AM

Wonderful giquilt! The freezer paper is a great idea. I write the block # on the back of the block but I might do the freezer paper thing too!

Congrats giquilts..I see you did get drawn in and what a great job! I didn't want to do any hand appliqué at the moment so converted my block into machine appliqué instead. Whew... just got the 2nd week done in time, I didn't want to fall behind on just the 2nd week

Here are my 2 blocks for week 2. I had so much trouble with those tiny applique pieces but I persevered, not over the moon happy with them but they are done...

thimblebug6000 01-12-2014 06:25 PM

Mirabelle, great job! I looked at those teensy pieces... still have company & decided that I could squish in time for the machine applique but not those tiny hand applique pieces....

giquilt 01-12-2014 08:08 PM

Mirabelle and thimblebug6000 (your pics are so good almost picked a thread off it) I love your blocks. Just looked ahead may take me all week to do Kansas Troubles.

mirabelle 01-12-2014 09:32 PM

giquilt a little tip for Kansas Troubles I cut all my pieces a 1/2 inch larger pressed and then trimmed to size, it kept it all straight and was easier to sew. This was after I tried 5 times to draw up the block to paper piece it and it wasn't working for me.

Thimblebug and Mirabelle, beatiful blocks ! ! ! ! @Thimblebug: with the first Sylvia I did machine applique too.

I do have a PP pattern for Kansas Troubles. I hope this works as I've never posted a PDF file before!

Thank you Anael for the pdf, I used it...somehow my blades ended up turning in the opposite direction to what I thought they would, but I'm happy with it. I'm having a stay at home day with a bad cold, so am having fun getting my blocks done.

QuiltingNinaSue 01-13-2014 03:47 PM

Anael, your PDF file works fine. I will use it as soon as I can. Almost finished with inner border of my Irish Mist, then on to January SYEs, then down to Sylvia and Dear Jane. I love enjoying my quilting time and being busy, busy, and busy. I think your kitty needs company, wish I could just winkle my nose and send a couple your way for a day or two. Then call them back home. What stories they would have to tell me about, and they could really teach your KK some bad tricks, too.:D

Thanks I will need that. I tried to do one little 1/2 triangle today and got it wrong. Retry tomorrow!

Anael 01-13-2014 11:58 PM

Thimblebug, your blocks are lovely!

Crqltr 01-15-2014 02:37 PM

Hi all, I just got my book in the mail this week so I am already behind...where I m sure to stay but I am going to give it a good go!!! I am using a little from my stash but I did go to the quilt store today and bought coordinating beiges and a few of all the other colors. Pretty expensive so this is one I will remind myself that I have to finish! I have a new computer with darn windows 8 that I am learning so I am not sure when I will figure out how to post pictures!

That darn thread! I try so hard to clip all of them... and wouldn't you know a stray one from a totally different project just pops up :D
