Happy Birthday, Teen. Your new home is shaping up. When do you plan on moving? The sky is awesome.
I have turkeys, too. They are fun to watch and they say that they eat TICS. I certainly hope so. |
:D :D :D Cathy!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Teen, may you have many many more!! The statue depicts the battle between men and the sea. The man in the statue is laying bricks to keep the water out and the sea will always try and get back the land. |

Oh..thought I'd mention that the 2018 Countdown to Peducka blocks (36) on AQS blog may be removed and become chargeable this weekend. It's a really pretty quilt tho I'm going to do different colors. Quick and simple sampler but still it looked cool to me.

Thank you for the b-day wishes!!!
I am moving from semi-country home to full-on country home so seeing wildlife is exciting. I can hunt in my own backyard, which is way cool (no offense to those who don't care for hunting). I hope the turkeys eat tics, too, and mosquitos, and ants, and.......lol! DH want to get a couple of goats to eat the acres of brush we have but I told him we would not be butchering. If I make friends...no way... Anael....so glad you got the blocks from AQS before they disappeared. Will be a fun, fast quilt top to do. And it's a sampler...lol!!! Right up your alley. Very cool statue, btw. And neat story... Thanks for sharing. Piddling around today and resting before the fun begins again tomorrow. |
Oh...Bluebell....We hope to move by end of summer. We need to come back to Idaho in about 6 weeks to finish up some stuff then...we will put house on the market. So excited!

Lots of news on this board. Anael, I loved your pictures, especially the tulip fields. We used to live near Holland, Michigan, and they had a big tulip festival each spring. And that it an interesting story about the statue. Teen, happy belated birthday & glad to hear the construction is coming along so well. I'm sure you are eager to start this new chapter of your life. Macybaby, my husband & I used to have rental properties that we did remodeling on. I am glad that part of our lives is behind us!
Here's what happened in my sewing area over the weekend: |
Wow DonnaPea, lovely blocks and great colours :) Soft tones and bright colours :D :D You've got it all!
|
Donna, those are very pretty! I like how the fabric in M9 works together. Very soft and appealing (at least to me!)
|
More BOM's.........what about this one? Did you see it? The link was posted on the board.
http://prairiepoint.com/be-my-neighbor/ I downloaded the blocks a while ago but didn't make it........yet. |

Donna.....steam was coming out of your studio this weekend. Looks fantastic. Love A5.....
Anael...that is a cute pattern. I wish I had the time to do this with you. I'll download the blocks when I get home. I have the Silky Village pattern (all PP) that I want to do. Bucket list is long... We start our journey home tomorrow. I'm pooped! |
Oh dear, more projects. I just downloaded the Sulky Village, it was still there! I LOVE it!!! All those wonky houses hahaha. Thanks Teen - I think......LOL
Have a safe trip home! |
I just printed the first block of the Sulky Village. It's a LOT of work........wow!!! Block 1 has 8 different pieces which all have to be paper pieced. But it looks like it will be a lot of fun to make.

Happy Birthday Teen, Happy almost Birthday MacyBaby. I hope you both enjoy your day!
More great home pictures ladies. I am so loving them. I will have to go out eventually and take a few to share. Have been so busy with commitments of late. DonnaPea, more great blocks. I think you are on a roll. I really love the first one. (C5) I favor the colors. But, they are all great. What a sense of accomplishment that is to finish all you've finished so far. |
My neighbor, the one I made the quilt for, passed away this afternoon. Not even 2 months after he was diagnosed.
|
Sorry for you loss Anael, glad he got some time to enjoy the quilt. I was making one for my MIL, she had brain cancer and it took her reasonablitly really fast. My DD was caregiving at the time, so I gave the quilt to her and told her to do what she wanted with it.
I made one for my FIL right after, and for two years it was kept in his closet and forgotten. My DD was more upset about that than I was. Not sure what happened, I think he told one of his friends about it and they must have raved about how special it was to get a hand made quilt, and since then he's had it out on his couch for everyone to see. I've just started making a fast lap quilt for a dear friend who is in his 80's that had pneumonia, and is having a very slow recovery. He is a Priest so I'm making a cross quilt with his religious order's emblem appliqued in the middle. I just started but figure I can get it done and quilted and deliver it Friday after work. Turns out it's a good thing I didn't get around to mounting the SBS on the LA after all. I have yet to take a partially quilted top off the LA to mount something else. Also good that I have all the fabric/supplies I need in my stash, so no shopping required. |
Thank you Cathy. He just left his house for the very last time, only a few minutes ago. I feel so very sad and everything I went through when my hubby died is coming back and being relived. I know so very well how she is feeling........
Things happen for a reason, so now you know why you didn't mount the SBS on the LA. It's very thoughtful of you to make your friend a quilt. Lets hope he will enjoy it for a long time. |

Oh Anael.....I'm so sorry about your neighbor. I know you've felt helpless. I know how loss can trigger previous losses. It's like starting the grieving process all over again. You'll be a tremendous support to your neighbor, I'm sure.
The Sulky Village is a busy PP project. I've had it printed awhile but wasn't very confident in PP so I put it aside. I'm sure, after SBS, I can tackle it now. Lol!... so, for my belated b-day, my DH took me to 3 quilt shops today. I am so excited...I found the RED for my BA quilt. I now have all the fabric and can start that project immediately. Also, picked up some patterns and a mini quilt kit....and, of course, polka dots!!!!! He kept pointing stuff out to me. He's a hoot in a quilt shop. I actually had to say..."that's enough for now..." Lol! We are checked into hotel and leave Boise first thing in morning to make our way home... |
Macybaby.....lovely idea for a quilt for your friend. I hope he recovers quickly. I'd love to see your quilt when finished. I have a cross pattern that I have not done yet and a Christian quilt kit that I have not done but, like for many of us, I'll get to them eventually. Lifting prayers for him....
prayers for you, too, Anael, and your neighbor. Big Hugs, girls! |
Thank you Teen! I knew it would trigger something but I didn't expect it to be this hard.
On a brighter note......I looked at the Sulky Village and I really love it. I do understand why you didn't start it, not feeling confident about your PP skills. You could do it now!! I already pulled out my scraps and printed the first block.....hahahaha. Your DH certainly is a keeper :D :D Have a safe trip home! |
I just went to my neighbor. She told me the quilt I made her hubby will cover the coffin during the funeral ceremony. He had told her he would like that. She asked if I was ok with that. I had a hard time not to cry and told her I'm very honored. So now I'm in tears - again.
|
Oh Anael, I am so sorry for your loss.
MacyBaby, it seems that you not mounting your quilt yet turned into a blessing in disguise. I hope that your DF will take comfort in the quilt you are making and have a speedy recovery. Teen, those are some great buys. It's sweet that your DH is so supportive. My DH would not set foot in a quilt store. But, he doesn't begrudge me my purchase. So, no matter, I feel blessed. I know you look forward to heading home. I have finished binding off all 4 quilts that have come home from the LA'r. So will be working of finishing up Swap blocks for a couple different swaps here on the board. Anael, I don't think I will do all those blocks. Although I do like them. I am not a fan of PP. But, years ago here on the board I was part of a "Wonky House Block" Swap. And, I would like to add in a few of those along with others to make those blocks into a quilt. |

Thank you Judith.
I started the Sulky Village this afternoon. I know, I know..........I was supposed to finish a few UFO's but hey, life's too short to not have fun, right? So here's the start of block 1. |
Anael - So touching that your quilt will be on the casket at the funeral. Sounds like it meant a lot to your neighbor, and this is a good reminder to us all to show love to those around us while we have the opportunity. You're right - that is a true honor.
And I love your cute little star blocks! You always have the happiest fabric. Is there a lot of fabric available in your country, or do you purchase this internationally through the internet? Macybaby - I think I know the pattern you are referring to. I've seen pictures of it, and will be interested to see your version of it. Teen - safe travels to you, and have lots of fun with your new project. It will be interesting to see it progress as well. Do you think you'll go as fast with it as you did with Sylvia? I think you set a world record with the SBS. |
Thank you DonnaPea!
I order about 95% or more of my fabrics in the USA!! Like the starry fabric, I ordered that for a very special quilt I made a few years ago. I used it as the backing. Here's the link to that thread: https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...m-t257997.html |
Hello from Provo, Utah!!! A little over half-way home....Tomorrow will be a long day but at least it's 80mph. Lol! Love Utah speed limits...
Anael....so sweet that he wanted your quilt over his casket. I would have been a mess so I totally get the emotional response. I love this and, obviously, you meant a great deal to him. Such a lovely thing for you in your memory book of him. I'm so envious.....I want to start the Sulky too!!!! But, alas, I need to stay focused. We'll be heading back to Idaho in 6 weeks so lots to do before. Donna....my Baltimore album quilt will be on-going. My plan is to complete, at least, one block a month but, I know me well enough that I will likely hustle through this project too. Lol! Once I start, I cannot wait to see the results. There are 25 blocks. My avatar is one of the blocks I did a pattern test on and made a pillow. Took me 2 weeks to do, including FMQ. The blocks are 16inch. So, big quilt, and all applique. Plus, I'll be doing trapunto so that will add time, too. I plan to FMQ it myself. I should have a LA by the time this is done. We'll see. My SBS will be sent to LA by end of month (fingers crossed). |
I made a label for the quilt with "know we are thinking of you" on it. I made it 8"x12" and brought it to work with me today and lots of coworkers have been stopping in to sign it. There are a few people that want to sign but they can't get up here today, so I told them they can stop early Friday and sign the completed quilt before we give it to him.
|
Lovely idea, Macybaby! He'll be so touched and moved by the love you all have for him.
|
That's a great idea Cathy! I'm sure he'll love his quilt. Hopefully he will recover soon!

Working on the Sulky Village, my very special scrap........a furry one :D :D :D

what a pretty helper! I have three that occasionally help, though one is a near constant companion when I'm home. When I telework, she spends a lot of time sleeping on the sewing cabinet right next to my chair (works as a great desk extension). Though it's also right in front of the window with a heater right below.
When I sew, she wants to sit right next to me so I have one of my sewing stools (one of my vintage singers) pulled out right next to me. She gets upset if I put something on it when she's not there and she'll meow at me until I remove it so she can have her spot. I got my current project on the frame this AM, and a start on the quilting. I sewed the label to the backing already so once it's quilted, it will only need binding. Here is a sneak peak. I have to put in 8 hours for work now, and am excited to get back out there this afternoon. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pswecvnfth.jpg |
Cathy, is that considered a water color quilt. It is really beautiful. Hope your work day goes by quickly. The work week is almost over if you work Monday-Friday. My last job, I worked Thursday to Sunday. It was part time. But, I really liked working those days. And, two of those days were double shifts. But, again, I liked where I worked and what I was doing so, it didn't bother me. And, even though it was retail, the hours were always the same so it gave me lots of time to plan fun days outside of work.
|
Oh wow, that's a gorgeous quilt!!!
How nice to have such a faithful helper hahahaha. I have 2, the one in the picture (Basja) is always laying on fabric, the other one (Pippi) isn't. She's sleeping a lot, but when I'm watching TV she's always near me. Basja is her daughter. They don't get along very well, that's because of Pippi. She doesn't like company ;) Basja is the huntress, she made sure there's hardly one mouse left here in de neighborhood LOL. Pippi, her mom, doesn't hunt. She likes to get her food served on a plate.......hahahaha. |
Hi Anael, then I'd say, Basja is worth her weight in gold. (Darn, their goes your fabric budget. lol :D) She is a beauty.
|
:D :D :D I don't have a budget as it is anyway.......:D :D :D I had to promise a friend I wouldn't purchase any fabric this year....so far so good!
If she only would catch the occasional mouse it's ok with me. I don't like dead half eaten rabbits at my back door though......or next to the coffee table even :( :( Or like two days ago, I steam mopped the living room floor, a few hours later Basja came in with a bird.......blood all over the place........that really is YUK!! Enough......I still need to have dinner tonight and it's almost 5.30 pm here now LOL |
I've got something to look forward to - no idea what it is thought . . .
my husband almost managed to fully surprise me for my Birthday. He made a trip into Sioux Falls yesterday while I was at work, and he did tell me on the offside that he went. He said he needed some supplies for the chicken yard, and told me he stopped off at a few other places too. Not a big deal, though normally we plan those trips for the weekend when we can both go. It's 60 miles away. Then today we were talking about how before I got my new car and DH got my old one, he never wanted to make the trip if I was not home because of the poor gas mileage the truck gets. So I said, I bet if you didn't have the car you would not have gone yesterday. And he gets a sheepish look and says "I'd have gone anyway, you do have a birthday coming up after all" I told him to stop right there and not tell me any more! He just can not keep a secret if he gets me a surprise. I have no idea what he might have gotten, I've not been talking about anything in particular that I've been wanting to get. He is so bad about this, I can think of only one or two times in over 35 years he's managed to actually surprise me with something. I also have to make sure not to say "I wonder what you got" as he'll start hinting and give it away. If he had not said anything, I'd have been totally surprised and I thought the trip we are planning to the quilt show in mid June was for my Bday. The chicks we just got are for Mother's Day (told the kids Dad made me a mommy again for Mother's Day LOL!!) |
So stop asking or making remarks. Maybe this will be the third time he's going to surprise you!
The minute you know what it is we want to know too :D How exciting!!!!!!!!! |
Ooooo....pretty, helper, Anael! Always a great companion.
Macybaby....gorgeous quilt on the rack. Did you just whip this out for the priest? And....stop it!! Quit asking about your b-day...lol! Sounds like your DH gets just as excited about your prezzies as you do... That is precious, really. I am home after 9 hours on the road. We left Provo, UT at 5:30a. Already unpacked, laundry started, plants watered...and I got the goofy wall hanging applique ready for machine work. Lol! I couldn't stand it and had to play in sewing nook a minute or two. Tomorrow, I'll garden a little and hopefully get the wall hanging top done. Then, I'll share it with you. It is so silly.... So glad to be home but miss my view... |
Oh...and...This weekend, in between chores, I'll be working on SBS! Still need to make my stems and leaves but easy peezy.
|
I found something I copied a long time ago. I think Teen might like it.....hahahaha
Psychoanalysis, which is easier to understand than to spell, tells us what we really think, when we think we think a thing. Without psychoanalysis we should never know that when we think a thing the thing we think is not the thing we think we think but only the thing that makes us think we think the thing we think we think. It is all question of the Unconscious. The Unconscious enables us to think we are thinking about the thing we think we want to think about, while all the time the thing we really want to think about, is being thought about unconsciously by the Unconscious. |
