And, even though I'm more of a yellow person, I really think the dark blue cornerstones are perfect!

TheMerkleFamily 05-25-2018 07:52 AM

OMGoodness! Teen - I've been quietly awaiting your reveal for weeks and must tell you that your Sylvia is absolutely gorgeous! I really like everything about it - from your fabric choices, the blue cornerstones, the delicate yellow border and perfectly placed floral applique border.. It's just a stunning quilt top and I can't imagine the final finish once quilted with final binding. Your precision is amazing :)

Oh wow....such lovely comments to wake up to. Thank you, so much, ladies. You are all so sweet, truly. Fingers crossed the quilting turns out nice. She's square, the borders aren't wavy, and she lays flat. Phew!! With 8" borders, I was bit worried. I can't wait to get the binding on this thing. It's all ready to go.

Anael....I'll post a closeup of applique today.

Dotty...I hope you are healing well! Good to hear from you..

Judith1005 05-25-2018 08:43 AM

Teen, your SBS is beautiful!! I love your final borders. Just perfect without competing. And, your yellow roses are lovely. I can almost imagine the sweet smell they give off.

MacyBaby, your garden pictures are beautiful. I'm sure whoever bought your house back then was totally in love with all your work and benefited greatly. I still hope they are enjoying it.

NZquilter, I love the idea of a R/W/B SBS. I look forward to seeing your pictures and cheering you on.

DonnaPea, a couple more great blocks. I look forward to more photos. I always enjoy seeing what scarps you'll use next.

Close-up of applique. Used mono-poly clear on light colors, and smoke on dark colors. I didn't have the size 60 needle or you wouldn't be able to see needle holes. I ended up using size 70, which is ok.

Anael 05-25-2018 08:25 PM

Wow.........beautiful!!!! Thanks Teen!

NZquilter 05-26-2018 06:42 AM

Wow, very fine stitches, Teen!

I promised you a few photos from today's ride with my brother. Here they are

This is the edge of the Veluwe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veluwe). Really, litteraly because on the other side of the road the landscape looks like this:

Flat as a pancake hahaha

Another Castle

and a church

This we saw and had to take a photo. It looks like the photo is tilted but it isn't. The landscape is sloping. It looks like the water is going upwards but that also isn't so. It just looks that way because of the landscape. Fascinating, isn't it?
We biked about 84 kilometers and we had a really great day!

Teen 05-26-2018 09:55 PM

beautiful pics, Anael.... The church is amazing. I love how you framed it with the tree limb. Wonderful eye for photography. My favorite thing to do when traveling is wander around old and majestic churches when we come upon them....and cemetaries. Kinda morbid about cemetaries but I love history. And the water spill is very cool. Just beautiful in your country.

Anael 05-27-2018 02:24 AM

Thank you Teen!

Very rainy weekend here, good for staying in & quilting. But we still managed a fun family outing yesterday to 2 historic sites in our own backyard that we had just never gotten around to visiting. I did not enjoy D-7 (Robbing Peter to Pay Paul) very much, considered just appliqueing it on, but am taking to heart the advice I've heard before on this thread - so much going on with the finished quilt, little mistakes will not be too evident.

Anael 05-29-2018 07:24 AM

I think that Peter shouldn't have been robbed to pay Paul, would have saved us a lot of trouble!!!
Very well done DonnaPea!!! Your quilt will be so scrap happy ;) Lovely blocks!

these are great Donna. Peter block looks wonderful...doesn't look like you had any issues. Love D10...polka dots...yummy..

so, I was playing today and didn't feel like starting another project yet. Needed some down time; however, when cleaning sewing nook today and came upon my pile of thread clippings from the back of my Sylvia. Not sure why I didn't just throw away but I keep them, stuck them in a baggie and put on shelf.....I decided to make me a momento of SBS journey and also try an art fabric technique on my bucket list. Attached is the result...lol! not sure if you can see but there are little crystals scattered..it really twinkles in person.......and excuse the shoddy binding....it's a 6" mug rug...

Blue Bell 05-29-2018 03:37 PM

Cute idea to use up mini scraps. Love it.

DonnaPea 05-30-2018 05:30 AM

Teen - what a cute idea for a mug rug! Sylvia certainly does generate some clippings, doesn't she? Great little souvenir you have there.

Teen 05-30-2018 03:03 PM

Thanks, Donna and Bluebell.. I started another applique pillow today. I'm filling my creative time with small projects. Not ready to commit to Baltimore Album quilt yet. Frankly, I'm exhausted after SBS.

by the way, she was delivered to LA this morning....woop woop...

Anael 05-30-2018 09:53 PM

Nice way of using everything Teen :D :D

Will your Sylvia be quilted with an all over design or custom quilted? Can't wait to see it finished!!

Teen 05-30-2018 10:42 PM

I was being sentimental when I made that mug rug... Lol...since then, I have put all the scraps away after I made the binding. I am leaving again for Idaho in a couple of weeks and will be gone for 2 weeks, likely. So, the LA will have my Sylvia for a month. The quilting will be a mix of both. We chose a cool design for "all over" quilting on the blocks. She is custom designing the mini border. Then, I will do FMQ on my domestic on the applique border. I've been playing with FMQ designs and I think I know what I'm going to do. We'll see.... Meanwhile, I'm thinking about another sampler....I know I know...I said I wouldn't do another one......lol... Still considering. I just want to use my polka dot stash, which is getting crazy...:D

Anael 05-30-2018 11:03 PM

Tell me, which sampler? Just curious. You know I love samplers :D :D But I do have enough projects as it is, I don't need another one hahahaha.

The hardest part of the quilting is chosing the right design. That's why I have tops waiting to be quilted. I have no idea how to quilt them! Sometimes I just pin them to a curtain and I know one day they will speak to me and tell me what is needed to finish them.

Judith1005 05-31-2018 04:06 AM

Donna Pea, more great blocks. You are moving right along!

Teen, what a fun tribute to your Sylvia adventure. I look forward to seeing what Sampler your considering also. I'm going to guess that it's either the Splendor or the Farm Girl I Sampler. As they both seem like they would be a fun use of your polka dot stash.

Anael, more great photos. Your country is beautiful! How are you coming on your PP project? *Houses*

Progress? What's that? LOL I only made 1 house and got distracted - as usual. Besides it's too hot to piece because of the ironing involved. So I set up my embroidery machine and here's what I did:

A bunny, a croc, a disabled parrot

poor thing is backless

the abled brother of the backless parrot and a not so ugly duckling :D

Embroidery designs are from Kreative Kiwi Embroidery.

Judith1005 05-31-2018 04:43 AM

Anael, those are great. How adorable.

Teen 05-31-2018 08:51 AM

Oh, Anael.....those are darling...you are so good at that technique...

The sampler I'm thinking of doing is mostly applique and called Green Tea & Sweet Beans by Jen Kingwell. She's the designer behind Gypsy Wife quilt. I like that it isn't even rows...just a collage of different sized blocks. I received my book and looks like fun...and its mostly applique with a bunch of misc pieced blocks thrown in. I think it would be adorable using polka dots and black on white fabrics for background, which is my favorite combination to work with. In the meantime, I'm playing with bird blocks....here is the first one partly done....need to FMQ and detail birdy... This one will be a pillow.... I will make this block again for the quilt block....just wanted a quick project to gift.

Well it's been a few months.
Glad to see this board is still up and running and there are a few more even at the beginning. I will be here til I finish - which at my pace may be awhile in between everything else. B
ut I've just finished two of Bonnie Hunter's patterns into queen sized quilts this past couple weeks and have a small window before I launch into the next couple projects. Finally here's two more on SBS. F2 Fool's Puzzle, and G1 Love in a mist - plus my last two finishes...

Teen 05-31-2018 11:02 AM

Hey auntjo.....so good to hear from you. Wow...what an accomplishment! Your BH's are absolutely gorgeous!! Those are a lot of work but your efforts paid off big time. Just stunningly beautiful work. And, love your SBS blocks. I did not enjoy Fool's puzzle....yours is great...

looking forward to to seeing more of your SBS. Mine is at the LA so I'll be still around to cheer you on!

Anael 05-31-2018 11:38 AM

HI auntjo, great to hear from you again!!! Your BH's are stunning!!!!! A lot of work, very well done!

I love your Sylvia blocks. That Fool's puzzle......I didn't like it either, Teen.
The colors of Love in the Mist are lovely.

Macybaby 06-01-2018 04:52 AM

Lots of wonderful progress going on!

I had unexpected visitors, my FIL showed up with 2 hours notice Sunday afternoon, and left yesterday. At least he has an RV I didn't have to find room for him and his friend and two dogs in the house! It's always real stressful having him visit, DH and I try real hard to make it nice for him. We really liked his friend, and turns out we have a lot in common, way more than with FIL.

I've been spending the last week with the LA getting caught up on the quilting. I'm on the fourth top, but I have not got any binding done. I'm so looking forward to getting back to piecing, but I can't decide what I should do next. I've also got a Jen Kingwell sampler pattern that I keep thinking about . . . and then the Nearly Insane and Dear Jane.

But then I look at all the applique and think I'd like to mess with that for a while. So who knows.

Nice to meet you, Auntjo. Love the 2 quilts you showed us - just beautiful. And your blocks look so nice; I set my Love in a Mist aside to come back to later, not pleased with the end result. It will be fun to see your blocks - I am glad to have a fellow traveler on the SBS journey. Here's a few more I finished up.

DonnaPea, you always surprise me with the colours you're using! Lovely blocks!!

Macebaby, you can't please everyone. I guess it's a good thing your FIL didn't have to stay in the house :D

This week we had an event called Avondvierdaagse, where you walk 4 nights in a row. The weather wasn't too good so one night was cancelled and last night the distance was shortened. Here's a pic of the grands after they finished their 4th night:

DonnaPea 06-01-2018 07:01 AM

Anael - what cute grandchildren you have! Are they siblings? They sure look alike. My grandson's father has Dutch heritage, and my gs (age 10) has the dark blond hair like yours do.

Teen, forgot to mention earlier that I like your block. Your new project sounds fantastic, and I think the fabric choices you're considering sound great. Hope you can post some pics of it as you go along.

Anael 06-01-2018 07:31 AM

Thanks DonnaPea. Yes they are siblings. The middle one is 7 yo, the other two are twins and 5 yo.

We might want to make a list of all the plans we have, the project names, books and designers mentioned. Maybe we can do a few together and if not we can cheer each other on. What do you think?

Teen 06-01-2018 11:55 AM

Donna...love the blocks.....that cranberry colored block is beautiful...love it.. Thank you for the nice comment on my birdy pillow...

Cathy......glad the FIL trip worked out OK. Having company stay is stressful even when you enjoy the people coming. I love to entertain but I'm pooped when all is a said and done. What Jen Kingwell pattern are you thinking about? I started my pattern....I couldn't help myself. It's a fun pattern and you all know I love the applique. So happy for you that you are knocking out the quilting... Time consuming......you'll get your piecing fix soon enough as quick as you are with stuff.

Anael....gorgeous grandchildren. And, good for them that they joined in the walk. What a fun thing to do together.

My LA'r text me....my quilt is on her rack... She couldn't help herself and decided to do mine right away. I may just have this back in a few days.... So exciting....

NZquilter 06-01-2018 01:17 PM

Such cute grandkids, Anael!!

DonnaPea, you are really whipping up those blocks fast!

I've been torn between a Patriotic colored SBS and a scrappy one. If I do patriotic I will need more navy blue... Maybe I should just go scrappy? Such a hard decision!! I might end up making two, lol. I really really want to try a block this weekend, so I am leaning towards going scrappy... Can you see I need help, lol!

NZquilter 06-01-2018 01:18 PM

So exciting about your SBS already on the longarm, Teen!

that's a fun idea but I don't want to take away from the brides still working on their blocks. So, if they are game, I would love to share my next journey with you guys. Just love this thread and the peeps here...

Here is a little sample of my Green Tea & Sweet Beans.....woohoo...I'm rolling around in my Polka dots!!!

NZ....why don't you do a block of each color-way?....one of them will call to you!!! I have tons of patriotic....want a couple of FQ's?(you can tell I'm really rooting for the patriotic colorway.....lol!)

Anael 06-01-2018 10:13 PM

Oh lovely!!! Those polka dots.......haha! I might have to hunt for some too. I only have the regular ones, not the funny ones like you have. I consider ordering the Green Tea book too. I love the quilt, it's totally different from any other sampler and since I have those fancy appliqué tools....LOL

Anael 06-01-2018 11:25 PM

I just ordered the Green Tea & Sweet Beans book :D :D

Teen 06-01-2018 11:42 PM

Hahahahaha.....you are so crazy! i'll look forward to sewing along with you but I won't be whipping this out like I did the SBS. I probably shouldn't have started this with me leaving again in a couple of weeks...then when we get back, our house is going on the market. I'll not have a lot of time to sew... I'll prep some of the appliqués and take them with me tho...lol! Oh Lordy....

You have a beautiful stash of fabric from what I have seen with your other quilts. What colorway are you thinking of doing ...or is it scrappy bright...?

Anael 06-02-2018 12:06 AM

:D :D It will be so much fun to do this together, well kind of. I'm not sewing full time either, I still have a pile of UFO's to which I'll contribute more and more. I think I will go scrappy with this one, like most of my quilts.

Thanks for the compliment about my stash, I don't consider it that great, it's just what I like and have and I decided I won't purchase new fabrics. Well, not today anyway.....hahahahahaaaa.
Can't wait to receive my book, I have no idea what I'm getting into......but I love the finished quilt!

Judith1005 06-02-2018 03:51 AM

Teen, I love your bird block. It so darling. You'll have to let us know how you like the Kingwell pattern. I have so wanted to use the Gypsy Wife pattern. But, have been afraid to buy it. I haven't heard the best comments on how the pattern is written. So, hopefully yours will be well written. So cute polka dot starter Teen.

NZ quilter, I too have a ton of Patriotic Fabrics. If you would like some FQ's, just shoot me off a pm. The drawer holding them can barely close. I'd be happy to share with as well. Whatever you decide will be great. But, I'm a big fan of R/W/B. I have several quilts in my house and am working on two more. Another one for my house and one for my deployed son-in-law.

DonnaPea, you are on a roll churning out the SBS blocks. You will have all your finished blocks before you know it. Can't wait to see your finished quilt top.

Anael, your grands are darling. The appliques you made, are they bookmarks? What will you do with them? They are adorable.

Aunt Jo, you did a great job with those curves. And, your finished BH's are beautiful!
