I just PM'ed Patrice about the Jen Kingwell thread. Hopefully she'll agree! Now I'm going back to bed. It's 1.45 am here now :D :D Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Goodnight Anael. Sleep well.
|
So much creativity, ladies! I love the bright samplers you are making, Teen and Anael! Very cheerful.
DonnaPea, I really like your yellow block! So... I had a bit of quiet time today while the girls napped and the SBS book was simply calling my name... and the dishes weren't... :D I made my first two blocks! I'll hopefully be able to share pictures tomorrow. I'm so glad you ladies gave me the nudge to make it in patriotic colors! |
I can't wait to see your blocks NZquilter. I just know your going to have fun making them. Have you gotten all moved?
|
Right on, NZ!! Cannot wait to see your blocks.... Check your PM tomorrow...
|
Thank you, Anael... I'm liking the colors I'm working with for this quilt. Feels so good to be finally dipping into dots... I've collected way too much to not do anything with it.

:D :D I'm sitting on my hands so I won't order any more fabrics. I'm sooooooo tempted but I told myself to use stash only for both Gypsy Wife and GTSB. Maybe I need some background fabrics but that has to be it!
Why am I doing this to myself? :D :D NZ, hopefully it all goes smoothly and you'll be sewing again very soon. Can't wait to see your first two blocks!! Molly Maiden duties never call our names and if so I pretend not to hear them :D :D |
Yessssssssss Patrice agreed with our Jen Kingwell thread. I will set it up in the BOM section but maybe she will move it, don't know about that. I didn't ask ;)
Heading over there now! |

DonnaPea, I'm so sorry to hear about your wounded warrior. I will be sending up prayers for him. Enjoy your time with your granddaughter. Who knows, maybe you will share the quilting bug with her. It's never too early start if they are interested with your supervision. If not, I'm sure you'll eek out a little you time here or there. Enough to wet your whistle anyway. I see you've added quite a few blocks since the last time I commented. I just love the colors your using. It's going to be a great scrappy quilt when finished. Have you given any though to if you will border the blocks or leave them as is.
Anael and Teen, your GTSB are coming along nicely. I love the two different color ways. I will have to check out the pattern again on Google or Pinterest. |
Nice blocks Aunt Jo. Your stitching is lovely.

I'm jealous of your nice blocks, I have not done any piecing since finishing my border quilt, and that didn't have much piecing to it anyway. I've been trying real hard to catch up on quilting, and hope to keep caught up once I get there. I've got quite a bit done and now have a stack of unbound quilts! |
Judith - thanks for your kind words. I'm still pondering how to put all these blocks together. I'm leaning toward sashing of the same cream that I am using as the background, with cornerstones. I had thought about black sashing, decided it's just too harsh. Still not sure about the outer borders. It's such a large quilt and already so colorful that I may just leave them plain. My gd is showing some interest in needles & thread; last night she rearranged my pincushion. Think I will get her some scraps to play around with.
Auntjo - love your blocks! Grandmother's Fan is next on my list. Are you using a particular color scheme, or are you going scrappy too? Anael & Teen - my next stop on this board this morning will be the new thread. I will be following your new quilts with great interest. And NZ quilter, good luck with your move. I know that is never an easy process. Would love to see the patriotic blocks when you have some time to spare and post them. And welcome home to Teen's Sylvia! I'm eager to see your totally completed project. |
DonnaPea, maybe you can make a group picture of your blocks and post it here? We might be able to give you some advice......if that's helpful remains to be seen .......... :D

Well, I said I wouldn't purchase any fabrics but I came across some that I just had to have LOL
I think it's perfect for my Gypsy Wife. |
Anael, I think your fabrics will be perfect for your Gypsy Wife also. They are pretty and bright. They Make me smile. What color are you thinking of for the strip parts?
|
Thank you Judith, that's what I thought too :)
I have no idea what color. I keep thinking about those strips but still no clue. I think I will make all the blocks first, lay them out and decide on the strips. |

Anael, I love buying fabric too, LOL!! those colors will be great for the Gypsy Wife quilt!
Teen, pleeeaaase show us a picture of your SBS quilt today? I really am excited for you! Let's hope my picture of my blocks comes through; I am using my DH computer and it has a personality of its own... I am starting from the beginning of the book, in alphabetical order. I figured that way when new fabrics get added in, which happens in all my quilts, everything will hopefully flow together. I have told myself if I am a good girl and pack half the kitchen this afternoon I will be allowed to make another block tonight :D (I'm going to be a good girl!) |
Oh NZ, those are gorgeous!!!!! Go pack your kitchen so you can sew more blocks :D
|
Bravo Nz, those blocks are fantastic!! Your off to a great start.
|
NZ those are really nice - I think the patriotic colorway is going to be spectacular.
I've got all my "give away for sure" tops quilted but one (it's not got backing selected yet) so that means I can start on my next stack. I'm down to 8 tops in the shed, and one completed one in the house. I do have two scrappy in progress tops I should wrap up too, since I already know they can go in the give away stack. I'm going to be hauling about 30 quilts to the family reunion, and hopefully I'll not come back with any. Now if it was just that easy to give away vintage sewing machines I'd be doing good! |
MacyBaby, That is awesome. You've done an awesome job finishing up quilts. Your family is going to have a field day.
|
NZ...fantastic start!!! Love the light blue contrast. This will be a stunner!
Anael....lol....gorgeous new fabric for GW. We deserve fresh new stash once in awhile...especially when starting a new project. I bought some light gray for background for GTSB so I totally get it. Thanks for starting a new thread. See you there too.. Donna....you'll get your inspiration for sashing etc when you lay them out for the first time. it's exciting that you are almost to the point that you are thinking of layouts. Wow... So exciting.. I'm working on my Sylvia....should have her done in a couple of days. I'll be sure to post pics...... |

Well instead of working on the couple new projects sitting on my cutting table I just kept on w/SBS. Gotta get to 'em while I'm at it..., and I had the perfect scraps as I was putting away the left overs from the last couple completed quilts.
Yes I'm going completely scrappy.. will try to do a pic of the group so far when I get back to what I should be working on this week. Todays - H5 Sylvia's Shooting Star and G9 Modern Tulip. |
Oh..auntjo...these are outstanding....that shooting star pinwheel star about did my head in ....pieces were so tiny. Yours is perfectly constructed and the colors perfect. Tulip block is gorgeous!!! The leaf fabric is awesome. Would love to see a group shot. These are addicting so I get being "pulled" to do more... Lol...
|
So pretty, auntjo! Your points are perfect too!
|
I gotta quit looking at all these pretty blocks....you make me jealous that you have time to do it...I know it will happen in a few weeks...but....makes me want to sit and sew!
|
Oh wow auntjo, Teen has said it all!! Stunning blocks!
OK, you will get back to the machine one day. I know it's hard not being able to and wanting it badly. Macebaby, congrats on finishing so many quilts! Your house must look very empty after giving away 30 quilts. |
Aunt Jo, two more beautiful blocks. Your SBS is going to shine like a jewel with all those jewel tone colors. I can't wait to see your blocks altogether. Your points are just beautiful. I can't wait to see more.

That's wonderful DonnaPea!! It's going to be one beautiful quilt!
You've managed to make quite a few blocks so you're almost there ;) Thanks for the group picture! |
Oh my goodness Donna, you are almost there. I like the cream between the blocks. But, whatever you decide will be great.
|
Donna....this is wonderful. You are almost at the 100 mark. Woohoo! I like the cream sashing too. Your background cream fabric is so beautiful. you still have time to decide...
FMQ'ing Sylvia today.... Maybe binding tomorrow. Stay tuned!!!! |
Oh Teen, that's so exciting!!!!! Tomorrow we're all in the front row for the Sylvia show!!!!!! YEAHHHHH
|
I'll be watching for the reveal, Teen!
DonnaPea, what a great way to keep track of your blocks! Is it a spreadsheet that you inserted photos on? I'm curious because I was just thinking about creating something like that for myself. I'm absolutely terrible at computers so I was hoping for something easy! I would love any tips. I love seeing all your blocks laid out and I agree, a cream sashing would be lovely! Can't wait to see what you do! |
NZ, I used an Excel sheet and inserted the pictures. Went like a charm :) I can't show you mine as my computer crashed last year and I lost all my files :(
|
Here's a link to a Splendid Sampler finished quilt. The blocks are 6" sq. https://bevanddara.com/2017/08/15/it...-still-sewing/ I think this would be an interesting setting for the SBS quilt also. This setting makes the blocks look like they are floating right off the quilt.
Here's another interesting setting as well. Say you didn't want to make all of the SBS Blocks. And, make an alternative block in between.....This setting could be fun too.http://www.shopmartingale.com/ss17.html (60 Block, 4 Patch and Chain) Top Pattern |
NZ...Anael taught me the excel spreadsheet and that is what I did mine on... With the GTSB quilt, I scanned the layout page in my computer, inserted the image in excel, And then just inserted my pictures of completed blocks over the scanned image. Might be easier to do it this way since the blocks are all uniformed from scanned image. But either way works great...
if you PM me your email, I can send the excel spreadsheet to you so you can start adding pics... |
Spent the day with Sylvia and I'm not done FMQ..but another hour should do it. My body is achey from lugging that thing around my domestic. Thought I'd be able to start on binding tomorrow...sorry....I am spending the day with my precious mother-in-law so I'll get to it again late tomorrow and finishing up Friday. That's the plan anyway... Thank you for being as excited as I am to see it completed... You'all are so sweet...
