Donna--your quilt is beautiful!!

Anael 05-18-2019 09:10 PM

DonnaPea, it's a stunning quilt! Congrats on finishing!! Hand quilted, how exquisite. Hopefully she will keep you warm and comfy for many years!
It was a pleasure to make this journey with you, thank you!

DottyD 05-19-2019 01:02 AM

Wow, DonnaPea - what a splendid Sylvia, congratulations. Your quilt is stunning.

Judith1005 05-19-2019 05:00 AM

Omgoodness, Donna Pea, your Sylvia is gorgeous. I Love your beige cornerstones and neutral sashing. They frame each block beautiful. And the blocks stand out and shine. Wowzers, you have one big bed. But, your quilt looks simply gorgeous on it. Congratulations! Isn't it amazing how therapeutic quilting can be.

Teen 05-24-2019 11:52 AM

Donna.....this is stunning, truly! We started this journey together and enjoyed the sew-along with you. The results of your work is absolutely gorgeous... Can't imagine quilting by hand this quilt so this is very impressive... congratulations on your finish!,

Well I have finally gone back to work on this beauty. Grey block sashing done, now for the inner connecting sashing. Had to make one more block today as I've reworked a few to size them better ...

Fabulous auntjo - I remember some of your blocks, when it was so busy here ! How is everyone and what are you making now ?
I am making a Patchwork of the Crosses - but a smaller version - and some other projects including a blue work quilt with embroidered snowmen.

Macybaby 06-11-2019 05:47 AM

That is a very stunning quilt - I love how it turned out!

Finally the top is complete. I am thinking about custom quilting this one, so may not be seeing it for awhile. Think I'm going to have to pack it away with all the other quilts I've had to take off the walls & beds. Haven't been in my studio for the past month except last Tuesday when my friend finally made it over for a sew session been cleaning baseboards which leads to cleaning walls, which leads to cleaning (yada, yada) prepping to stage our house for the real estate agent next month when we return from our family reunion and the celebration of my Mom's 90th birthday in Iowa over Labor Day weekend. Haven't found the house on the Oregon coast yet, but was up in July looked at 16 or so, and am putting together another list of about 20 for maybe next week - and one of those is already pending. Anyway, today being my birthday, the other half said go for it & I've been in the studio all day for once! Have 2 more passes to go on the quilt that's been on the Tin Lizzie for the past 3 months to finish it, will do one for our Sisters in Stitches small quilting group - our fearless leader was in the hospital for over 2 weeks with what started as diverticulitis and will be going back for some repair surgery in a couple weeks so we are making her a happy quilt to go with her.

Congratulations, it is G!!!!

Anael 08-04-2019 11:39 PM

Oh my.................it's stunning!!!!! Congrats on this great finish!!
And congrats on your birthday of course. Little late but I wasn't home yesterday.

You're a busy lady. How nice to make a happy quilt for your fearless leader.
I hope you'll find your new home. You know it when you see it. Well, hopefully! :D

toverly 08-05-2019 03:53 AM

Beautiful, AuntJo. Love the little black border then matching the sashing to the larger sashing. I'll have to look into that pattern again. Your's turned out wonderful .

Teen 08-05-2019 02:15 PM

Just stunning, auntjo! Love the colors... Hoping all goes well with your friends surgery and you finally find the home of your dreams. Welcome to the great Northwest!! Again, beautiful finish and so happy for you! Congratulations!

Macybaby 08-06-2019 09:44 AM

very nice! And happy birthday too!

oksewglad 08-06-2019 11:57 AM

Oh fantastic finish...I, too, like the double sashing between blocks.

On another note, the pipe hanging your quilt is a great idea. Not only a great photo spot, but hang a vinyl backed table cloth for a design wall. If you have several WIP's you can take the cloth down and put up a new one....hmm this has me thinking!

betthequilter 08-07-2019 06:30 AM

What a masterpiece! You should be so proud. Happy Belated Birthday. Good luck on your move.

thimblebug6000 08-08-2019 07:14 AM

Nice to check back on this thread and see everyone's quilts coming together, I did enjoy the blocks we stitched and still have a small quilt top left to quilt.

giquilt 08-20-2019 07:37 PM

This is stunning. So glad you have got her together!

There are two 4x8 flannel sheet covered foamboards (Home Depot, I think). That's where this quilt has lived the past several years while I pin up another sheet over the on-going project to pin new quilts together. Then you can hang the top when it's done or pin it on the others.

I've never heard of this book/quilt and have been looking for just this! I was so happy to stumble across it today. I'm so glad ya'll are still here. I might have to make this quilt. I'm going to complete my Dear Jane first as I'm down to the last of the triangle border with the center complete and top sewn. Just need to really get a full head of steam up and go for it. Course all the easy ones are done. But today I got a referral (from here everyone's so helpful) to a site that has each of the patterns broken down. I started on it 20 years ago and have since been diagnosed with a bunch of stuff some of which mess with my head so I'm learning everything over again. Anyway, all that to say, love the quilt and need to make one. Is anyone else still working on it?

Here it is! I love seeing so few empty spaces.
This is great! How on earth did you do this? Does it require a special program? Things sure have changed in 20 years since I worked most of my Dear Jane.

I am! I'm not working on it "full time" just every now and then between other projects and when I need something different. I've made ten blocks so far and have cut out a couple more. I'm doing mine in Red White and Blue.

Teen 08-22-2019 12:10 PM

Hi, Wendy....I finished mine last year and posted a picture here but always love to see other's Sylvia's in the making. Hope you'll share your progress as you go. Love the DJ pattern too... Would love to see that too!

NZ....please share a group shot of your blocks so far. Still super excited about your colorway....so neat!

Anael 08-23-2019 02:16 AM

Wendy, hi!! Nice to see you here, welcome. We're still here though not all of us are still working on Sylvia.
I finished mine a few years ago though she's still waiting to be quilted ;) I started a second one, didn't feel like finishing, combined the finished blocks with finished blocks of the Farmer's Wife quilt and made a Sylvia the Farmer's Bride quilt LOL.

I would love to see your DJ!

Here's mine, so far. I miscounted, I've actually made 11. Since I took the project out to photograph it, I might work on it a bit today. I've been working on three applique quilts lately and I'm kind of "appliqued" out. :D A bit of piecing sounds like fun!

DonnaPea 08-23-2019 04:45 AM

Welcome, Wendy. I too finished mine earlier this year, and it is currently being exhibited in our regional fair. NZquilter - I love your color choice! That is going to be a very striking quilt.

Oh, that's mine! No, it's just done in Excel. It was an interesting way to keep track of blocks. Then as I hand quilted each block, I did the reverse and deleted the picture from the spreadsheet so I could keep track of how much more I had to do.

Anael 08-23-2019 05:45 AM

I kept track of mine in Excel too. Very handy :)

NZ, most of the time I am not such a fan of the red, white and blue combination but I like yours!

Teen 08-23-2019 11:25 AM

NZ.....love your blocks!! I absolutely love that you made some blocks with only one fabric. That is a creative idea and will really help balance your colorway. The maple leaf is gorgeous! I'm so excited about your SBS. It's going to rock...

Thanks for the warm welcome.

The printer finally stopped. LOL I found the PDF of the blocks online and have printed it out. Book should be here next week, fabric next or the following. I ordered 12 yards of Kona black. Now I need a box. :-)

DJ is here.

I have the fabric triangles all cut out and half(?) of them done. It's a good thing I'm so far along as DH got overzealous in cleaning and toss my box of repro's just in the last 6 months or so. What a waste and it's impossible to replace as I'd swapped for ages to get a good mix and what folks sell as repro's today, well they aren't my DJ repros. I got enough bland stuff though that I should be able to finish now.

Really glad I made this journal as I have all the dates and some entries which make it super fun to look back on.

I tried to work on it recently (got really sick in the last 20 years FMS, DDD and SLE along with some others) so that my brains and hands don't always act in sink. I ripped the same seam so many times I thought I'd weakened the fab too much. I'm going to finish this though cause Sylvi is calling. Must start a journal for her, hummm there's plenty of room in the DJ book I think I'll add her in here. Fun! Glad your all still here as I know me, I need the human touch to get my git along into gear.

Anael 08-25-2019 09:09 AM

Wow your DJ is beautiful. So sorry your hubby tossed the beautiful fabrics. I used my DJ also as a journal. With Sylvia I wrote the date I finished the block in the register, no journal though.

Teen 08-25-2019 04:27 PM

Beautiful DJ, Wendy!! how exciting that you are almost done and getting ready to start SBS. Black background should be a dramatic effect. Your hubbie should not be allowed in your sewing room. lol!! What a stinker!
