My husband's 8th great grandfather, a Mennonite bishop named Hans Herr, settled "Penn's Woods". He came here fleeing religious persecution. Herr is a well known name out east.
My dad's uncle Mickey was the water boy for Gunga Din.

My husband is descended from Rebecca Nourse of the infamous Salem (MA) Witch Trials.

I have a ancestor from MO/AK area named Silas Claiborne Turnbo. He wrote many many stories of life in Ozarks in the 1800s. His stories are online at: http://thelibrary.springfield.missou...urnbo/toc.html

My 2 youngest are related to Frank Serpico, remember the movie Serpico? It was a true story. When people hear their last name they get asked alot..hey are you..and they cut them off and say ya ya I am..lol Does that count?

On my dad's side I am related to a member of the Boone Party (Cavanaugh) and later there was intermarriage with Boone children. On Mother's side supposedly related to Melons but I don't have any proof. Do have proof of Revolutionary War Veteran (Burch) on that side. Who knows? Hasn't made much difference in my life.

My dad's uncle Mickey was the water boy for Gunga Din.
He lifted up my head
an' he plugged me where I bled
An' he gave me half a pint of water green
It was crawli'n and it stunk
But of all the drinks I 've drunk
I'm most grateful to the one from Gunga Din

This is not about an ancestor, but many years ago when I was a young
(very innocent) high school girl, I dated George Jung... the movie, Blow (starring Johnny Depp), was based on his life of crime). Of course this was a few years before George got into drugs/drug dealing. It was a blind date set up. I was shocked to hear George on NPR talking about his book being made into a movie. Since then my kids constantly tease me about my infamous boyfriend drug dealer.

Nope, no one famous and as far as the infamous ones go, I don't claim any relationship to them. No, those people aren't related to me at all.

Four brother and sisters in my mom's family moved to Illinois from Kentucky and married a brother, sister, cousin, and niece in my dad's family. And thus began the true Civil War. LOL

Just kidding, although the family marriages are true. Mom was the youngest sister and married the cousin of her brother in law and sister in law. The were married 54 years and I never heard them even raise their voices at each other.

I'm working on my genealogy stuff this year. It's SO interesting! I mentioned in another post that I'd found the Ropers on my father's side and my mother's side were related. Born2Sew on this forum contacted me and said SHE's a Roper. Turns out we're cousins (XXX times removed - but cousins just the same!)!!!!

I know we're related to George Washington -- his brother's line are my ancestors. I just came across the possibility we're related to Wyatt Earp. I've also found my father's side of the family goes back to King of Ireland.
