If she has had it ruptured she will not be going back the next day to school or anywhere else. Lucky she isn't dead. With all the different types of infections that are out there she will be feeling sick for a few days and then some. Our neighbor boy had his out. He almost died as they misdagnosed him. He had fever over 101 and the infection had a pretty good hold by the time they figured it out and took him into surgery.

Thank you everyone. It has been a week and a day since she had the drain tube put in. She is still very sore and walks pretty slow because it is so uncomfortable. We know that she is lucky that this did not kill her.

My son's appendix ruptured 2 years ago at age 19. He had an incisonal removal and was hospitalized for several days. I say she should have it removed before it has a chance to abcess again. Most people who have it removed laprascopicaly are only kept overnite.

Depends how they have to do it and if any complications arise. Already sounds bad with an infection. Hope she does well.

Mine ruptured New Year's Day, 2007. I thought I had the flu but by Jan.4th I was so sick and in so much pain I had my husband take me to the hospital. I was full of infection and my appendix was in 5 different places. The doctor said he could not have saved me had I waited another 2 hours. I was in the hospital for several days, a week with a caregiver and then home and down for four months. I was 59 at the time but your daughter's age will give her quite the advantage. Good Luck and Best Wishes for a speedy recovery! Keep in mind that everyone's body is different and we all have different outcomes.

The appendix can actually kill. Take them out. It can poison the whole system. She will get through just fine because she is strong and young. My best to her.

If it has already ruptured once, I would definitely think she should have it out and not take any chances. When I was a freshman in college (of course, this was many, many years ago), mine ruptured and I was in the hospital 7 weeks and almost died. It took a long time for me to recuperate. I missed the balance of the semester and couldn't return to school until the 3rd semester, so I would definitely not take any chances. As I said, this was many years ago and things have improved tremendously today.

I think it all depends on so many factors, it would be impossible for any of us to give you an accurate idea. What kind of procedure they will use, how severe her illness is, her general health prior to the rupture, how well she listens and follows the doctor's recommendations for a speedy recovery - these are all things that will affect how long she is down.

What does the doctor say? That's the person to ask.

p.s. May I say I'm shocked that they haven't removed the appendix already.

since she had a prior problem with her appendix it may take her awhile to recupreate this time. Lets ahope she can bounce back fast. My daughter age 51 had an emergency one about 2 weeks ago.she cannot lift anything over 10 lbs. Is back to work but had no prior complications. She needs to do some planning like take some classes thru interenet etc. I am hoping for her that all goes well and she can bounce back fast
