I do not want to go back to the ways of my childhood. Most things were labor intensive especially keeping a house in order. We lived rural and had a one local general store unless a long drive into town . Our selection of products was what the owner of the store wanted everyone to have, he never had any newer items at all. Kept saying they were newfangled and no one needed them. I have always had a gray spot for mom and pop stores because of him, the old coot.

This one goes out to all of us moms that did this!
Every second/third day when I had one in diapers... every single day when I had two wearing diapers!
Rubber pants and diapers on the clothesline all the time!

What an awesome memory inspiring thread. My mom had a diaper service for me, and I remember the penny candy, and those tiny brown paper bags, you could fill one with a quarter. Party lines I remember. My mom and I both still have clothes lines. I cherish my childhood memories, I feel so bad for the current generation, they will never experience what growing up in the 70's and 80's were like, and for me it was wonderful.

Endora, No, the 4 of us are actually only about 6 1/2 years apart in age, from me to my youngest brother. So I usually only had to sit and hold my two youngest brothers when feeding time came around, and give them their bottles. My mom has a picture of me holding my oldest brother, giving him a bottle, but I'm crying because I didn't want to hold that "stinkin' kid". I wanted to go play with my sister, who is 17 months younger than me.

Yes, those little tiny miniature brown paper bags that stores had for penny candy. I remember how a gang of us neighbourhood kids would embark upon the store, little tiny brown paper bags would be given to each of us, and the store owner would help us in figuring out how many of this or that we could get.
Red Hots, a chewy spicy hot candy about the size of a silver dollar were a favourite of mine!
I feel the same as you, in that growing up in the 60's and 70's, was the best, but of course I'm really slanted when it comes to that.
