Our place up north has black bears. I had hung wash up on the line.Thank goodness no quilts at this time. I could not fine my camera. Year old bear tore off all the wash from the line and made a pile and I found him lying on top of the pile having a gay old time. Had to do the wash all over again.GRRRRRRRRRRR!
This is where I hang the wash

I have both - the ground squirrels are very destructive - the bears too - when my fruit tress ripen - they climb up in them and break the limbs - I don't mind them cleaning up what fell on the ground but I don't like them crawling up in the trees. I found that pounding some skillets together scares the bejeesus out of the bears - at least so far.
