this has been done in Europe for decades...it works...here we have Aldi's, it is an Americanized German store..they have the buggy fee and it really works, NO buggies left anywhere..but then again, their clientele is mainly elderly so they have manners anyway! I wish the big box stores would ALL do this...

Doesn't that just make ya mad.
Just like the Walmart parking lots. No place to park with carts left everywhere. I wish they would have this system. Now everyone is going to be mad at me for even suggesting this.

You can't take the carts outside at our Joann's, so I would be pretty ticked off if they wanted a quarter just to use the cart in the store.

Paying for carts brings back memories of pay public toilets. When I was a kid we had to pay a dime to use the toilet in the department stores.

Remember those?

I don't remember pay toilets, but I do remember a store in Houston about 20 years ago that had the 25 cent carts, and when you returned it you got your quarter back. I haven't thought of that in years! The store was called Auchan.

In the big Joanns by me, they have some to pay and some not. Not sure how it works. There are usually several free ones sitting there.

We don't get the quarter back when you return the cart. I'm not even sure if we can take the cart outside the store and I didn't even find a way to return the cart so nO one can use it after me. We just left it where we got it.
