I agree with you both. Thanksgiving is such a lovely peaceful holiday (except for the hostess!). I love the colors, the family time, the food. Christmas has become so commercially driven that it takes Herculean effort to remember the reason for it. JMHO.

As far as I'm concerned, the Christmas season starts the day after Halloween. Had Christmas music on Pandora all day yesterday. Love the season, love the music and decorations, love to bake, plan and sew, and a starting the season after Thanksgiving just isn't long enough!!

I have xm radio in my car so I'm not subjected to the whims and chatter of the disc jockey I had to drive my truck somewhere Friday and it only has "regular" radio. I was surprised that the station I keep tuned to on there is already all Christmas music. Really? It used to be that you didn't hear or see Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. I guess I'm showing my age - I liked it better that way. By the time Christmas comes now, I'm tired of the commercialism of it.

I think it should start the day after Thanksgiving. Hate seeing Christmas stuff out in the stores and hearing the music before Halloween, which has happened this year.

I went into Lowe's 2 wks ago and fake trees were already up and decorated and they were playing Carols. WalMart had there Christmas candy out before the Tricker Treaters were home with their loot. The radio stations are already throwing in Carols. So I now listen to CDs at home and in the car. The stores start shoving Christmas down our throats way to early. Draining the joy right out of the holiday. I use to love going Christmas shopping. Every one was in high spirits and friendly and full of love and joy. Remembering the true reason for the season. I can't remember the last Black Friday that the news did not report deaths by trampling all over the country. Lining the pockets of CEO's is not my idea of the Christmas Season... We do things for one another that mean something- My brother and SIL have an early Christmas present this year-we all got together and put in a whole new bathroom for them. And this past week WE all got the best present any one could ask for. My DIL had open heart surgery and she is home and doing real good. I hope every one's Christmas presents could be as wonderful as the ones we give and receive year around.

MisDixie, do not worry I am respectful of our Veterans. The Legion is right across the street from where I work. I love when they have the Pipes and Drums outside for a ceremony.

Here are from canada too, getting our first snowfall today, timer for the Mummers Song, today and every day til christmas.

Normally I wait until the day after Thanksgiving. I use the weekend to decorate (which takes FOREVER since I collect Santa Claus stuff and I have six Christmas trees). Then I host a big cookie exchange luncheon on the first Sunday of December for my neighborhood ladies. However, I just realized a few days ago that we're going to be gone for two week over Thanksgiving, so I told my husband that we'd (they get the boxes down from the garage storage and I decorate) have to decorate next weekend. He's ignoring me...

Christmas music after Thanksgiving for me and no more as soon as Christmas is over. Now for one of my DDs, she starts Christmas music in August.

Christmas music is among the most beautiful of genres. We listen to it as much as we can. Why deprive ourselves of the majesty and grandeur?

Depends on if one observes the Liturgical calendar or secular calendar...or the retailer calendar. Take your pick!
