I've been having a lot of 'locked out' files the last few days on only this site. My computer blocks the file and then lets me know that a faulty file tried to access my computer.

I have gotten a few warnings from McAfee on links. So I just do not open them.

Really? I've only paid maybe $100 total for all antivirus since we have had a computer (about 11 yrs now). I use a free one now and no problems so far *knock on wood* :XD:

I would love to try a mac but I can barely afford a good pc. And a mac would have to be in addition to the pcs we own since my kids' homeschool curriculum doesn't run on a mac. I could run it with the special software but would get no tech support. So...we have to have 3 pcs. No money left for a mac after that.

My sister just got a mac and hates it so far. I think because she's just not used to it yet.

Picked up a trojan after visiting one of several quilting sites, including this Board. (I suspect but am not 100% sure - the culprit was Penny Helpern's site) - the trojan was 'mediash'? When I was there my popup blocker kept saying this site was trying to load activeX. I didn't allow but somehow it still came through. I am very careful about clicking on links and haven't had virus or trojan (only cookies) appear for years. (I haven't had this problem recur since i stopped visiting Penny's site).

I'm not sure what the name of the virus was, but it's hopefully gone! My DH played all last night and It hasn't popped up again. I had gone to a site from here and downloaded a pattern, It never gave me any warnings, but right after I did it was when it started.Today I'll be putting all my music and pictures on my backup hard-drive. I had been lax in that aspect!

Yes and my husband had to rebuild my computer! Don't click on anything in the borders of the newsletters!! Also, if a message pops up saying that your computer might be infected "click here for more info" and you do, you've just infected it! Run some of the many free malware and other software products to get rid of the problem! Good luck, I almost got banned from coming to the site but he gave in when he could fix it! Yay!!!

Had a friend that forwarded an email to me & my AVG totally blocked it. Ever since I had my computer people download a Antimalware program it has been great. So now once a year I take computer in & for $25.00 they renew it & clean up my computer for me. I do run my scans regularly. Best money I ever spent.
