Oh man...that reminds me of my Christmas Eve/Early Christmas morning trip to the emergency vet last year. We came home around midnight on Christmas Eve after traveling around visiting family all day. Let all the dogs in and we were relaxing with them a bit before going to bed. Finally time to go to sleep, we get up and discover our littlest dog had managed to climb up onto the kitchen table (something she'd NEVER done before) and had eaten most of a 2 pound box of chocolates we'd just received as a gift. This dog only weighs about 12 pounds; her belly was FULL and very round and she was already starting to throw up from the poisoning she'd given herself. Had to rush her to the local 24-hour emergency vet to get her taken care of. (That was a harrowing ride...) Spent several hours and a small fortune there, ended up getting home around 6AM Christmas morning. She was just fine in the end...made herself pretty miserable for awhile but no lasting ill effects. And now all chocolate in our home is kept in the 'fridge where she can't possibly get to it no matter WHAT she climbs!

Oh the things we do for our fuzzy family members!! Glad your girlie had such a fun Christmas, and didn't suffer for it the way my little girl did! LOL

One Christmas Eve, our husky/malamute 3 month old puppy ate 2 packs of cigarettes, a 1 lb Hershey chocolate bar, a 10 inch chrysanthemum and 3 glass ornaments. Yes, he lived and we learned to never put chocolate out under the tree. Vet said he was the luckiest dog he'd ever seen because that combo should have killed him. He had a cast-iron stomach & constitution and continually ate things bad or his health. He was also a runner, jumper and digger and we couldn't keep him home except chained in the yard or contained in the house. Miss that dog still.

I had a King Charles Spaniel, who specialised on climbing onto kitchen cabinets, one night I had Cooked 10lb ground beef and split into chilli and bolognese, too hot to freeze, thought it was ok on cooker top, came down next morning to a little dog whose tummy was so extended his paws were stuck out at angles like a cartoon, yip he had eaten the lot, damm dog didn't even have an upset tummy despite all the chillies.
