When I first got married I had a nice dinner with pork chops homemade applesauce and potato pancakes. Well I never had eaten potato pancakes before and never made them. I grated the potatoes like the recipe said and by time I was making them the mixture had turned black. I didn't know why but used it anyways. We sat down to eat and my husband took a bite but didn't say anything. then I started to eat mine and Yuk, it was horrible. I pulled him plate away and dumped the pancakes and the rest of the batter in the garbage. they were horrible and he was being so nice saying how great everything tasted. We still talk about it today after 33 years of marriage. I've never made them again!!

Another time it was my bosses birthday and he liked pies instead of cake. So I made an apple pie and had filled it very full with apples and it had turned out picture perfect. When I took it to work everyone said how nice it looked and it was too pretty to cut. To my surprise when cutting it I said it felt like I was cutting air. To my surprise the apples I used had turned to sauce but the crust was at least 4 inches high and I was literally cutting air. It tasted good anyways.
With the Holidays coming, wondered how many of us have had a cooking disaster.Speaking of the Holidays reminds me of my sis in laws turkey for Thanksgiving.Bro stands at head of table to carve & pulls out a yucky bag with the innards still in it. Kind of spoiled our appetites :-)

OMG! My SIL fancied herself a gourmet cook and insisted on hosting Thanksgiving at her house. The whole family was gathered in the kitchen talking when we noticed her and her oaf of a husband hovered over the turkey they had just taken out of the oven. Yep...they too had cooked it with that yucky bag of innards inside it! Disgusting! Years later her husband attempted to deep fry a turkey and did it again!

PM me and I'll give you a great recipe for German Potato Salad. It is my great grandmother's recipe.
Thanks, dear heart. I suspect this is a mental problem..for one, my father was Navy and would pass up fried chicken for a pot of beans. When I went to live with them we wound up on the reservation in Yuma (I hated the desert after growing up in lovely green West Virginia) and the blowing sand would get into the big iron pot of beans Mom had to cook. And I was raised to believe that gravy was almost a national beverage, so potatoes with no gravy are not for human consumption. I won't do more than take a polite bite of french fries!!

Like I said, SaveMart has real good already prepared stuff that my friends claim, rightly or not, are very good. Now German Deviled Eggs are another thing, those I make quite well. There are never any left when i take them to parties.

Know just what you mean! After DH retired ,we spent a lot of time traveling & enjoyed it so much, but when the green rolling hills of SE Ohio appeared, knew I was home.Guess it's all in what you're used to.
