I for one am getting really tired of cold meals. I refuse to put one morsel of heat in my house. This has gotten extreme to say the least. I am greatful my sewing room is the basement , so much cooler . Me and the fuzzy one are cellar dwellars till this extreme heat is over. It hit 104 today and will go a bit higher tommorrow ! and maybe some desperately needed rain might happen this weekend .

OOH! I would like to see 80. It is in the 90's when we go to bed. Got AC's running all the time. I can't stand the heat. It is so dry and hot here, Our tomatoes died and we're not allowed to water when we want. We can water on Thurs and Sun.

I am so thankful for AC, but our basement is much cooler and we can go down there if we need to. We keep the temp set higher so it doesn't run the unit as much. I do any watering before 9:00 AM and get inside and stay inside!! I am very ready for cooler temps and praying for some rain. Our field corn looks like short little sweet corn that is tasseling! We love ice tea and drink it with ICE. I keep hearing thunder, unless it is fireworks going off illegally. We are able to water and have kept the garden growing. Ripening tomatoes are on the vines!

We are fortunate to have A/C, but I also have fans running all through the house (night and day). Add a little salami, cheese, and vegies to a pasta salad and you have cool, but filling meals. I try to get all of my errands done by nine am.

Fans in every room. It cools off here until August. By then we will have packed up the RV and headed north. We drive until it's in the 80's. Then he rides his bike and I piece tops.

Keep a spray bottle of COLD water at hand and use it on yourself...arms, neck, face, legs. I keep my hair quite short in summer so even use the spray on my head. Wetness promotes evaporation and therefore cooling.

Finally got power just after noon today after almost 6 days without AC or water (pump for well); temps here have been over 95 every day. Many have really suffered.

107 today and 108 last week. Over 10 day of this continous record breaking heat. No relief until Sunday and then it will be 98. Good ole St. Louis weather. The emergency rooms at hospitals here are packed.
To make things worse its been so dry. I don't mind the heat as long as I can retrieve from it inot a/c.
Drinking lots of tea/water. Other than that, not much else you can do.
I haven't had my oven on since the wave started. The crock pot and George Foreman grill have been getting a good workout. Sometimes just plan old sandwiches are the best.

Oh, I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one! I just don't do heat & thought when I moved to WI (from FL!) that I wouldn't ever have to worry about it. Guess again! Anymore we get the worst of both worlds... wind chill advisories in the winter & heat advisories in the summer. It's so hot here that even our weeds are wilting!

To keep cool? Well "cool" being a relative thing... lots of cold Dr. Pepper, no cooking in the house, the A/C on full blast (tho it quit last week & that was a long 24 hours), all the ceiling fans in the house going like gang busters, cool baths. I have absolutely no energy -- this heat just saps it. So I've just been a lump... watching lots of TV (my step-daughter is visiting for the week so that's fine with her... LOL!), reading, goofing around on the 'puter, just marking time till this breaks.

I remember once, before we had airconditioning, it was really hot like this and I was trying to wash dishes. Sweat was pouring down my face and stinging my eyes - it was pitiful. I finally got the idea to put cold water in a dish pan - and stand in it. I was washing in hot water feeling totally normal - the cold water on my feet and ankles cooled my blood down so that I felt very comfortable. Please do try it!! If you just have to sit (or stand) for a while it really really works!!
