In Arkansas, I divide anytime the earth is warm. They may not bloom the first year after moving. They can be dug up, cut up, broken. They are tough bulbs that grow close to the surface and multiply easily and produce beautiful flowers. Traditionally, I believe it is recommended to move in the fall. Lay the roots, (bulbs) lengthwise and the shoots will sprout from one end and rise upright.

They aren't hard to do, but not sure this is the time of year. You dig the up with a fork shovel and either replant, or store till winter. A good time to do this is when you see the bulbs in the stores. Google "how to dig irises and storing"
I know they will be beautiful...

Irises are tough and can be done anytime according to my green thumb Mom. Some may not bloom next year but most will. Be sure and space the bulbs well as they multiply worse than rabbits!!

Cut the tops when planting. I believe the fall is the best time. More rain and cooler days.

anytime, Iris's are hearty. I cut them with a sharp knife after digging them with a pitch fork. Some may not bloom the following year.

Not sure about irises but my garden store said "6 weeks" before frost for peonies.

A hint about irises: Do not bury the root; just bury the tentacles or the root will suffocate. So dig a little trench, spread the tentacles out in it, lay the root on top and cover the tentacles with dirt. They won't bloom the next year but the second year they should be glorious.
