Cottage cheese and yogurt are both healthy foods. The thing you want to avoid are the yogurts where a lot of sugar is added. IMO, low-fat yogurt or even full-fat yogurt is healthier than no-fat because of the added sugars. Even full-fat has an acceptably low amount of fat.

You should also avoid the ones with fruit in them. Get plain or vanilla and add your own preserves, frozen, fresh or canned fruit.

I make my own yogurt so I know EXACTLY what is going into it. Even some companies put additives in their plain yogurt, you have to read the lables. I know one is gelatin with making my own I know it is milk and yogurt culture. Even with the investment of a yogurt maker in the long run you are saving money and getting a better product. One word of advice if you buy a yogurt maker not all milk will turn into yogurt. The store brand Meijer milk will not Kroger milk makes YUMMO yogurt but the best is a powdered milk I buy at Amazon.com SACO non fat dry milk it cost less the $40 for 40 qts that means you are paying $1 per qt for yogurt as apposed to in Ohio $2.69 per qt for dannon plain yogurt. once you make your first batch of yogurt you just use a few tablespoons from the batch to make the next batch and so on. EASY PESSIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

the diagnosis was missed by a lot of people until it was extremely dangerous (stroke range). Vision problems are what finally caught it. have to lose about 40 more pounds. to control my sugar i have to stay around 150 carbs a day. DO NOT want to do insulin so i will learn all i can. i am still learning.
fruit has lots of nutrients and vitamins, but for a diabetic fruit is not good. way to many sugars

My husband and I are watching our sodium intake. I am taking meds and he doesn't want to. I like to keep tomatoe soup on hand - have you looked at the sodium levels in that!!??! Even Campbell's low sodium label is high. Sodium is added to everything to enhance the flavor. If fat is taken out, sodium is added. My husband's doctor told him to eat only what God has made. I have cooked with no salt for years!!!

I don't like fruit with my cottage cheese. I have an issue with things touching.
Barb,
I don't like my food to be friends, either. And especially not lovers, all intertwined together! And I eat one food at a time so they don't really know each other till they party in my tummy! LOL!

That must have been terrifying. You're very wise to learn all you can and do what you need to, to get your blood sugar under control.

Are you aware that berries are much lower in sugars? 1 cup of raspberries has only 15 carbs, and after you subtract 8 for fiber, only 7 carbs per cup. Strawberries are only 12 carbs, minus 3 for fiber, so only 9 carbs. And you don't have to eat a whole cupful. Cut up just a few strawberries and toss them in your salad, and every mouthful will taste sweet - without extreme sugar.

i knew about the strawberies but not the raspberries thanks. right now i am still learning what my triggers are what i can eat, and what i cannot everyone has a suggestion, i try some--some i ask my doctor about and some i know better. everything is moderation. and counting carbs--and maintaining strict control on my sugar. wish i could say the same about my stress level and BP.
