I know how painful this is. I am so sorry. Yes it is the best thing we can do for them and our last act of love but knowing this sure doesn't make it any easier. Give yourself the time you need and it is way ok to cry and be sad and upset. Do NOT listen to the morons who inevitably say "it was just a dog" (or cat).

I had to put down one of my beloved goats last week.

Here is a poem for our furbabies.


If it should be that I grow frail and weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done, for this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand, but don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years, you wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me, until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree, it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you, who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years, don't let your heart hold any tears.

i'm so sorry to hear of your loss. it's horrible when a family member dies. i had to put my fur baby down aug 27, it still hurts us alot. i made a memorial quilt for him, and he's still on my avatar. you're in my thoughts. just think, another quilters fur baby is on the other side, looking out for us in the fabric stores, and yours and mine are together, forlicking around talking about us together. I'm sorry for your loss.

Been there, done that with kidney failure. It's very hard to do, but it's the best thing for the fur baby. {{{hugs}}}

I am sorry for your loss. My heart does go out to you. I lost Papa Bear, my Rottie, and Mozart, furkitty, this month. It hurts so much when you feel it is not right, but it is the right thing for them. Remember, you gave them a life, you choose to give them love and a good home. She will be there for you one day.
