A pattern from Simplicity, Butterick or McCall's marked 'easy' or 'how to' will have very clear directions. I've used all three, plus Vogue and others and Simplicity fits me best. Not that I do apparel sewing any more since the quilting bug bit me.

Vogue had a book on garment construction many years ago. It is about 1-1/2" thick. I have it but usually just bought the patterns. Simplicity also had books years ago. 1 was on home dec. I'm not sure if there was 1 one garments. The Vogue book is very detailed & that is probably why it still looks new.

I just looked on Amazon & they have many of Nancy Zeiman's books on sewing , pattern fitting etc. The ones I saw were under $20.

I've always liked Stretch & Sew, but think the only place you find them today is in a thrift store. Quik sew is very good. In both of these, you trace your fit from the master pattern.

I like Lotte Jansdotter book with patterns, also bold and beautiful by Habibe Acikgoz. Bold and beautiful has a cd with patterns or pictures to draft on pattern paper. I have made for myself size 12 and for a larger friend size 18 easy to adapt for a perfect fit. I got them from Amazon

I bought a Readers Digest book "Complete Guide to Sewing" at a used book store. It is my go to book. Best find ever.

Nancy Zieman and Sandra Betzina, two of the best teachers. Should be lots of books out there written by both of them. Also Linda MacPhee, a Canadian seamstress. I have some of her patterns, they are great. Here's a link to her site: https://www.macpheeworkshop.com/

Check FB site Those Darn Sew and Sews. There are plenty of recommendations and lots of people willing to answer questions as you learn. Sorry, I don't know how to post a link.

Palmer Pletsch, "Fit for Real People", is an excellent book for sewing garments. They also have a full video series on "Creative Live" that leads you through fitting issues. Check them out on Youtube.

Also, I love pattern designer Pamela Leggett at pamelaspatterns.com/ .

Pamela's patterns are excellent and she has lots of free video tutorials on her site.
Good luck.
