I have never seen a skinny person holding a diet soda in their hand! I have struggled with weight ever since I had my daughter at age 23. Before that weight was not an issue. When I finally started losing (slowly) was when I droped the soda for water and really limited the carbs. I am luck to live on a ranch and we grow our own beef and garden some. It is a battle every day. Hope you do well, I will cheer you on if you do the same for me! :)

Congrats on the stop smoking. Hope you can keep the weight off too! Hard candies helped me a bunch with both. I still got the sweet taste I craved without the tons of calories. Mind you, you can only have 3 or 4 pieces a day.

my son was [is]hyper-active so there was no prcessed food in the house -no cereals -store bought breads or pastas except Kraft Mac&Cheese it was the only M/C he would eat His wife had a lot of adapting to do She was a little chubby -an extra 75lbs-within 6 mos she lost 65 of it Fresh fruits and veggies cooked or raw kept handy instead of candy etc gives you healthier looking skin and hair and a more positive attitude towards dieting and before you know it the Doc is telling you your wgt is PERFECT

Bought him the Biggest Loser calorie guide and it is very helpful for him or anyone.
Have you tried Truvia???? It comes in packets or a little jar. I use it all the time - I haven't tasted sugar since December. This is totally healthy for you. Natural! One packet =2tsp sugar and no calories. I have that on my cereal (hot) no milk! Don't need it. I throw in some dried craisins - delicious! Edie

This a very interesting topic...you can guess that I need to lose 15kgs. Hope more tips are posted. Cannot afford WW on a pension but am going to take up the excellent idea of keeping a food diary.
Good luck to all who are hoping to lose the excess baggage which seems to sneak up on one.

We eat a lot of salads but I can't find healthy salad dressings. I have to watch my sodium and fat intake and almost no sugar. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi, This recipe is one we use from the Australian Heart Foundation.
1/4 cup of white vinegar or white wine
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons finely chopped spring onions or red onions
2 tablespoons of finely chopped herbs. (your choice) Fresh herbs
Process In a blender the first 4 ingredients. Then stir in onion and fresh herbs. Refrigerate. Makes 1 cup
Cheers Shirley

Please make sure that you don't have any health problems that are keeping you from losing weight. I was following Weight Watchers and couldn't seem to lose any weight, which was depressing. Plus I have dairy and egg allergies. My doctor ran some testing on me and found that I had an elevated cortisol level and low DHEA level. Both of these were keeping me from losing weight, no matter what I did. The low DHEA was also causing me to crave sugar. The first DHEA supplements that I took were not effective. I'm now taking a different brand and hope that they will work.
