My nuerothapy has improved enough that I am ready to ride a bicycle again. I want a small frame, 26" tires, hand brakes, a few gears, slightly wider tires and a reasonable price in case it doesn't work out. I like the frames that allow you to put your feet on the ground. Have you purchased one in the last few years?

I bought a tricycle because my balance is just not all there any more. I got it at Camping World. You really need to go to a bike shop and have them fit you to a bike. Many shops also have used bikes. Swinn still makes very decent bikes.

I have a Sun tricycle. My son bought for me four years when I was casted for 13 weeks. He knew I'd be stir crazy if I couldn't go walking. I was at the bike shop today. They only had a large Specialized in my price range. The young man and I both agreed that I needed a small frame, so that is settled. I have found a Schwinn low entry one online, but I'd have to drive 75 miles to get it. I doubt if one will fit in my car.

I also bought a tricycle after many years and miles on a two wheeler but since my balance has changed a tricycle was the next thing. I absolutely love it! I am able to still get out there and enjoy the biking lifestyle but feel so much safer.

I have a Schwinn that fits your description almost exactly. I ordered it online from Walmart and had shipped to my local store at a reasonable price.

Haven't purchased one recently, but saw one in the Walmart ad that reminded me of the type that was popular when I was growing up (let's talk 1950s). That type may fit your needs.

After pricing factory-built recumbent trikes ($2,200+ each ), my husband built us each one. We absolutely love them. They ended up being around $550 for the pair, including the plans that we bought online. No balancing needed, and you can stop for a rest anywhere and you'll always have a seat with you.

DH is an industrial painter, so he painted the trike a dark red pearly color (hard to see in the photo). The canopy is just a prototype. The m0unting bracket wasn't painted or anything, so ignore that. I made the flag out of quilting fabric, reflective tape, and ribbon. The trike has a built-in water bottle holder, lights all around (including a super-bright headlight for night riding), and a shelf behind the seat for carrying stuff. I can't remember how many speeds it has ... 21, I think. Except for the frame, it was mostly built from recycled bicycle parts.

Oh I wanted a step down one so bad but the shop near me had them for $500.00! So I never got one. back in 1980 i fell gently off a bike I was riding home. fell onto the grass. got up and went home. had broken my tail bone! never want to fall off anything again. so step down would have been great. you stop, put your feet out and they are on the ground. you stay upright!

Sounds great, but I have always wondered about neck pain from that head position. Here in Washington State, we see a lot of cyclists in groups. There are always a few on the recumbent bikes

That's what I want, but that price isn't for me no more than I will be riding. A sportings goods store will ship the one I'm looking at for free and their stores will assemble them free. There is a store about 50 miles away, so it's doable if it will fit in my car - if not, I'll borrow one of my daughter's cars. I just don't want to spend over $300 and find out it's not right. I can't afford it, but I have my Christmas and birthday money put away. That's a lot of fabric to waste!! I wish the company would ship the bike to the nearest store so I can pick it up assembled. I will call if I decide to get it.
