I also hope to see here that she is okay. I live in Houston and just before my husband died, he made me promise I would get a security system for the house. Said it would make him feel better! I have to admit, every time that I turn it on, and I keep it on all the time, I feel better and it is like a hug from him!

I keep my doors all locked night and day, the dogs are my high alert system, I even make sure to lock the car doors only if just running into the 7=11. You cannot be too careful these days. I also have the numbers hand of my neighbors which I can call. You did right!

About signs that say Beware of Dog: I was always told that indicates you already know you have a bad dog and if someone gets bitten you can get sued. But instead put signs that say "Guard Dog on Duty" which indicates it's a good dog, but trained to be a guard dog and only doing his job if someone comes on the property.

And I also lock my car doors no matter where I go and even for a quick run to the convenience store. Also, I have my keys in my hand when I exit the store or wherever, unlock my car as I get to the driver's door and immediately lock all doors as soon as I get in. I've read where women especially get in the car and fumble around in their purse or check their face and hair in the rearview mirror which is a no-no. When you are doing that it only takes a split second for someone to open your car door.

Thank you for that info about the dog sign. We bought a Beware of Dog sign last year but never put it out because of what you said. Great idea though for Guard Dog (or DOGS) on Duty. I think I will make a couple of those and laminate them and post one on the front door and one on the French doors in the back family room.

Perhaps you could get someone to fence in a small area of your backyard right outside you backdoor.....about 6' high with a locked gate so you could let your dogs out after dark.

You're right about this world today. My dad passed away in the spring; and someone broke into his house before we had time to pack everything and move it out. Mom didnt have much of anything, but they took a tv my brother had bought her, and some other stuff that was sellable, we didnt care about that- it saved us the trouble of dealing with it. What they did take that really erked us all was her hand written cookbook - the little notebook she put all her favorite (and ours!) family type recipes we all grew up with. I was going to transpose the book ad make all my brothers a copy - that was the only thing we all wanted back. We sort of figured out who it might be - a kid living 3 doors down - always in trouble with cops for minor thievery, but couldnt prove it.
Have the serial numbers of all your electronic things kept in a book and if they come up missing you can go to police with the numbers and if they suspect someone they can check the numbers on the items in the persons posession. sharet

I haven't seen Betty on facebook and she hasn't posted since 22:13:45. IS THERE ANY ONE IN THE WV AREA WHO COULD CONTACT THE AUTHORITIES? I am concerned...

I know this has been moved to personal announcements, but I am concerned for Betty`s welfare. Is there anyone in the West Virginia area who can contact the authorities. I am in Canada and it is a little hard from here. Betty hasn`t posted to facebook today and her last post on here was at 22:13:45 last night. Betty is usually on facebook several times a day.
