All of our driver's licences expire on our birthday and are good for five years so it seems we're always forking out too much money for a new picture. Why do they have to be so bad?????

I was commuting with a friend to school, 100 miles each way and she was driving. On day five, as we stopped at a traffic light almost home, a guy pulled up beside us and yelled that we'd better renew the car insurance (expiry dates are on the licence plates). All week with no insurance! She could barely finish the trip she was so nervous once she knew.

ho-ho-i was visiting my kid and his family, then in texas, went to check in to come back home when the agent said i wasn't going anywhere, my license was expired by two weeks! i almost fainted. but, but, i stammered, they checked me through when i left, almost in tears. ahhh, honey, the agent smiled, i was just funnin' you... you go on and get on, just be sure you get a new one when you get back. i did, but do you think i learned anything? i had to renew last year [five years had passed] and missed by two days. senior moments!

My husband has a cataract and went to the ophthamologist for an eye check and got a letter from the DMV that would pass him for his license. And he did, but wouldn't have if he had not gone to the dr. So now we wait for his new license and making arrangements for cataract surgery.

I had the same thing happen. I was sure I would fail the eye test and sure enough, got a letter to the DMV from the doctor okaying my driving (under 45 mph, no freeways and not after dark), birthday in September, first surgery in November, 2nd in December. (Now I can drive over 45, on freeways and in the dark). Have perfect vision. That was three years ago and guess what? Renewal time again in September, but at least I don't have to go through that again. Minnesota doesn't have online renewal. Edie

I did that once...I realized it the day prior to us leaving for a trip to Europe. I had to spend about 6 hours in line to get another one since I couldn't travel without it. Talk about an ugly DMV picture...I was soooo mad by the time I got up there....geesh!

I need to go check mine right now, I might have done it again!

Same here in PA and you can print out a page that makes you legal until it comes.

You should renew as soon as you get the notice. I renewed three weeks before my birthday, thinking that was plenty of time. CA is doing all new licenses and it took two months. I called them and they sent me a temporary one. Just an FYI.

Funny you should post this. A couple of days ago I was cleaning my desk and found the postcard reminding me that mine was expiring, which prompted me to figure out that by now it had been expired for two months!

Yesterday I went in an renewed it, they tacked on a 10 dollar fine for renewing it late.
