Yes, those mental health days are wonderful! We don't abuse them but once in a while it is necessary to take one.

Yeah!! I always say that staffing is management's problem. EVERYONE DESERVES A BREAK FROM THE GRIND! It's healthy. Ha.

I once worked for a company that encouraged us to call in when we weren't sick. They (smartly so) realized that we all just need a day now and then. So, they gave all employees three of what they called "discretionary holidays" each year. You called in before you shift was supposed to start. As long as a certain percentage of employees hadn't already called in before you, you got an enthusiastic "Enjoy yourself. See you tomorrow".

I will take a day off as well, but working in a school, I usually know the day before....I check my schedule, and if the coast is clear, I also have no guilt. We all need a day to recharge sometimes as our weekends, for the most part, are really busy taking care of others.
