Minda and Alife - from what I've been told - the library books you borrow on the Sony "self destruct" in a period of time - a month I believe. I'm going to the library tomorrow to talk to the librarian and will pass on whatever I learn from her. With Thanksgiving preparations I haven't had much time to "play" with the reader, but hoping to learn it this weekend.

Just a thought - for those of you who have lots of books and want to get rid of them - check with your local VA hospital. That's where I send mine and they're always happy to get them.

My fiance has kindle. He is a reader and he LOVES it. I know some people say "why would I get this when I can go to the library for free?" Well, maybe your library is better than ours, but a lot of the time the books will be checked out. Or, if it's in a series, they will only have 2 or 3 of the series and not be consecutive (say their are 5 books in a series, they will only have books 1 and 3 or something like that). Amazon also offers books for download for free. The kindle also suggests books that you might like based off what you've downloaded.

It reads like paper. There is no glare. The battery life lasts for days without recharging. you just put it into sleep mode and it doesn't waste any battery while not reading.

I was thinking of getting one and did some research. New and bigger ones are coming out next year so I think I will wait and check out the new ones in a few months.

I think I would miss sharing books. I keep a lot of books on hand but I am constantly passing books on and sharing with friends with the understanding they get passed on, so my personal library always changes. There are a few I will keep and want back, any of the Quilting Series books and things like the Number One Lady Detective Agency series. Otherwise books don't stay at my home long. Our YMCA also have book exchanges you bring books and take books for free.

I keep thinking about the Kindle, but have not seen one up close and personal, maybe when I do I will change my mind about getting one.

I too, share books, but when I travel my suitcase will be so much lighter without 3 or 4 (or more) books in it! Will fit better in my tote bag that I take on the plane with me. I'm also thinking that the readers are really better for the environment - less trees need to be cut down. There are many pros and cons - but like everything else, we each need to see what will work best for ourselves.

When I used to travel a lot for work, I used to take books with me (of course)..I always took paper backs though and when I finished them, I would leave them in the room...or in the lobby...or in the airport at the gate....somewhere where someone else could pick it up and enjoy it. I've left lots of books in hospital waiting rooms too. Lightened my load and possibly brightened someone else's day. :D

Shaverg... What is the Number Lady Detective Series. Are they true stories?? I like Ann Rule books and true crime. Just wondering??
