The kindness of strangers
#43
Isn't it nice when someone goes out of their way to be nice. One time when we were vacationing at our place at the river, my dog needed to be de-matted big time. I did not have any cornstarch to help with the matts so I sent DD to the local market. They had no cornstarch for sale, but the lady went into her house & brought out her personal stash & gave it to her, no charge, no worries. I just LOVE folks like that.

No, don't feel bad about laughing or talking about memories. I'm told that the last body ability to be lost is hearing, so it's very possible that your FIL can hear you, even though he can not respond. Keep telling him you love him and every now and then send a comment to him. That will send him home with love in his heart.

I'm a cashier in a local grocery store. I always keep a couple dollars worth of change in my pocket in case a customer is a few pennies short -- I can help. I've been in the same spot many times in the past. I had no idea how much people, especially the elderly who are on very limited budget, are so thankful for those few pennies. I would rather do withput a soda or candy bar if it helps them with their grocery bill.

I have never told anyone this, not even my husband. As the grocery store, the woman in front of me asked how much and started looking thru her groceries. I just watched for a moment and the cashier looked at me apologetically when I realized she was putting something back. Then I asked how much and it was one stinking dollar. I handed it to her and she didn't want to take it at first but eventually did. One dollar, such fuss to me. One dollar, so much to her. She apologized and thanked me out the door. I felt so good and still do when I think about what one dollar meant to her.
