Spray bottle works wonders! Especially for keeping off kitchen countertops.
The funny side effect of the spray bottle is when your ironing . . . spritz what you're ironing and the cat takes off running! LOL!

Get a scratching post that is tall enough that the grown kitten can stretch its full body length. I have several that are 5 feet or taller and that does the trick. No problems. Plus cats love to be up high.
This will work out for you! They're going to weedle their way into your heart and stay there. Get two - they keep each other company!

One can clip and file their nails so they are less sharp.
Some plants are poisonous to animals. You might want to check that out.

I have 3 cats and none of them claw my furniture. I do have scratching posts and 3 emery cat things--they use them all the time!

There is also a product called "no scratch for cats" available at pet smart and petco. I used it for about a month 2-3 times/week and cats don't scratch furniture even now and the remaining cat does not scratch furniture. Sprays on cloth furniture not wood, no odor and no staining.

Our vet refuses to declaw a cat. He calls it an inhumane practice. Make sure the kitten wasn't taken away from the mother before 8 weeks or older so they will be socialized better. I've had male and female cats with no problems. If you are going to get two and can get litter mates they will get along well. Don't overfeed and don't put their water in a plastic container as it causes sores around the mouth in many cats. They need exercise, especially once they leave the more active kitten stage. Have fun with them. They have individual personalities and can be a joy...Good luck finding that perfect pet! :D
