I am on the move to much, never in one spot for long it seems, and the cell goes with me! Haven't had a landline in 5 yrs. There are some downs and ups to everything, this included.

This is true. And there have been about 3 times in the last 5 years where not being able to fax was a HUGE inconvience. However it seems ever more popular to scan the item and email to people!
I bought a wand scanner online for 99$ (btw - I just tried scanning something on my computer screen - it worked!) I actually use it quite extensively now I have it, on vacation we went to a local area library and scanned some local maps, you can scan your fabrics to put them in the computer then print to take to a fabric store to match, anyway, w/o a house phone, you can scan anything and email it to whomever needs the info asap sharet
(scanner is the magic wand by vupoint)

Your number can be transfered to the cell phone. You can take any phone number with you to any other carrier or service. We transfered my landline number to ATT/Cingular a few years ago, so we have had the same "home" number for 11 years. Then when we changed to Sprint we took all 3 phone numbers to them.
It is simply a transfer of service, you keep your number.

We did because of the $$ savings. I can call more places cheaper with the cell.

Land line for me although I have a cell in pocket. Reason, when the tornados hit and the towers went down, no one was able to reach each other for a considerable amount of time. Sure there could be a dollar savings, but I still say, if something is not broke.....don't fix it.

As for cells always working, no. I was visiting relatives last summer where there were considerable hills and valleys and no cell coverage. Then during 911, I was in the mountains and unable to reach family by cell because again, no coverage. My landlines will remain my best friend.

I kept my same number when I changed to Straight Talk. All you do is program it in the phone. I don't even live in the same area code anymore, but you wouldn't know it by my phone. I kept the same number so my Mama doesn't have to pay long distance to call me.

We wanted to do just that. However, a land line is required for an alarm. So we have the most basic you can get & have it bundled with Internet and cable.

How do you get your internet service without it?

my internet service is through comcast, however, I used HughesNet before. It is pricey though, I paid $100 a mo because it was the only company available. I can't get ATT phone service here.

I've had cell only for about 11 years. Hated the landline company and when the line went bad, just disconnected and didn't look back. I get my internet through wireless broadband and only had trouble once with lengthy no service because some thief stole the wiring from the tower! When I was looking at internet service I could choose landline & dial-up (DSL not available) or wireless broadband. Even though the broadband is $52 a month that is cheaper than basic phone & DU, and much, much faster. My cell phone is usually on the charger most nights because where I work, coverage is faint and spotty and that eats the battery. (Building's fault, not location) I also keep a car charger in the car just in case.
